By simply scanning a QR code with their mobile phones, patients can instantly access their medical imaging results on their devices. This is the scenario observed by VCBeat at the Zhaoqing Second People's Hospital Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital (hereinafter referred to as "Zhaoqing Second Hospital"). On the afternoon of January 19, the launch ceremony for the "Information for Public Benefit, Service First—'Cloud Imaging' Service Platform" was grandly held at Zhaoqing Second Hospital. Attendees included Huang Lang, Party Group Member and Deputy Director of the Zhaoqing Municipal Health Commission; Zhong Han, Party Secretary and President of the hospital; Li Bing, Deputy Party Secretary and Secretary of the Commission for Discipline Inspection; Vice Presidents Li Zhongmin, Ruan Shujing, Sun Jianxin, and Zeng Jun; as well as Lin Guoxiong, Chairman of Yilianzhong Ruitu Company, the platform's contractor, among other relevant personnel.

In his address at the launch ceremony, Deputy Director Huang Lang stated that, as the first public hospital in the city to launch the “Cloud Imaging” service platform, Zhaoqing No. 2 People’s Hospital holds significant practical importance for advancing the application of internet technologies in the healthcare sector. Furthermore, through the joint efforts of the hospital and Yilianzhong Ruitu Company, this initiative will also play a crucial role in promoting regional sharing and mutual recognition of medical imaging data.

At the launch ceremony, President Zhong Han stated that 2022 is a pivotal year for the “14th Five-Year” development plan of health informatization, as well as a critical year for achieving the goal of universal access to basic medical and health services. The “Cloud Imaging” service platform achieves seamless integration between medical imaging and internet technology, representing another significant initiative in the hospital’s informatization construction.

“Cloud Imaging,” in layman’s terms, eliminates the need for physical film by allowing patients’ imaging data to be accessed and shared via smart devices such as smartphones, tablets, and professional-grade monitors. With features like rapid retrieval and cross-institutional access, “Cloud Imaging” enables physicians to directly review prior studies when patients seek care at different hospitals, thereby avoiding redundant examinations and saving time and effort. Compared with traditional film-based methods, its most prominent advantages are being low-carbon, environmentally friendly, convenient, and efficient. By replacing the conventional “plastic bag plus medical film” model with “cloud films,” it not only spares patients the hassle of repeated visits but also facilitates on-demand access to imaging results anytime and anywhere, while optimizing healthcare service workflows. Particularly during epidemic periods, it effectively reduces the risk of cross-infection associated with patient crowding in queues and the handling of physical film media. Following the implementation of “Cloud Imaging,” the use of traditional film will gradually decline, significantly lowering film-related costs.
According to Lin Guoxiong, Chairman of Yilianzhong Ruitu, the technical contractor for the hospital’s cloud imaging platform, the newly launched “Cloud Imaging” service platform covers CT, MRI, X-ray, and other diagnostic examinations. It enables the cloud-based storage of the vast volumes of new medical imaging data generated within the hospital’s medical consortium (or alliance). By leveraging intelligent internet-based interconnectivity technologies, the platform facilitates regional sharing of imaging data and collaborative remote diagnostic services. Furthermore, compared with traditional film, cloud imaging retains original data, offering clearer visualization, dynamic display, and multi-dimensional reconstruction. These features significantly enhance physicians’ image interpretation experience and greatly improve diagnostic accuracy.

It is reported that the “Cloud Imaging” service platform of Zhaoqing No. 2 People’s Hospital has been officially launched and put into operation. Prior to this, the system underwent a one-month trial run, during which it operated stably and provided nearly 10,000 cloud imaging services to patients visiting the hospital, while also facilitating the work of clinicians. Patients can easily view their examination reports and cloud images on mobile phones or computers by following the WeChat official account of “Zhaoqing Second People’s Hospital Maternal and Child Health Hospital” or scanning the QR code on their printed examination reports. They can perform image processing functions such as one-click 3D reconstruction and securely store and manage their imaging data long-term in the “cloud.”
