Molecular Glue Targeted Protein Degradation Drug Developer
GluBio Announces Completion of Nearly $50 Million Series A FinancingRecently, GluBio Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “GluBio”) announced the completion of its Series A financing round, raising nearly $50 million. The round was led by GL Ventures, with participation from Lilly Asia Ventures, Qiming Venture Partners, and E Fund Management Co., Ltd. Existing investors Kaitai Capital, Legend Capital, and Xianfeng Qiyun continued to support the company’s innovative development by increasing their investments. The proceeds from this financing will be used to advance the R&D pipeline, upgrade the new target discovery platform, and strengthen team building. Previously, the company completed a $20 million angel financing round, bringing its cumulative fundraising total to nearly $70 million.
GluBio, established in March 2021, is a novel drug R&D company focused on molecular glue-mediated targeted protein degradation. The company is developing next-generation molecular glue therapeutics aimed at pathogenic protein targets previously considered “undruggable.” To date, GluBio has established a multi-dimensional protein degradation screening platform, an innovative target validation platform, a rational molecular glue design platform, and a proprietary high-activity compound library.
Molecular glue degraders are a class of small-molecule drugs that induce interactions between E3 ubiquitin ligases and target proteins, thereby leading to the proteasomal degradation of the target proteins. Since the systematic demonstration in 2014 that thalidomide analogs treat multiple myeloma through this mechanism, several molecular glue drugs have entered clinical development. Unlike the non-systematic discovery approaches used for early molecular glues, GluBio has established a robust technology platform for the discovery of molecular glues and novel targets. Addressing various “undruggable” pathogenic protein targets, the platform integrates high-throughput screening with multi-omics and structural biology, while leveraging rational design tools such as machine learning and degron prediction, significantly enhancing both the success rate and optimization efficiency of molecular glue drug discovery.
“GluBio is dedicated to the research and development of global first-in-class novel molecular glue drugs, aiming to meet patients’ clinical needs and drive medical innovation. We firmly believe that protein degradation technology holds the potential to deliver transformative new medicines to patients worldwide and is poised to shape the direction of small-molecule drug discovery over the next two decades. We are honored to have gained the favor and support of numerous prestigious investment institutions and investors. We look forward to working with our team to build an industry-leading protein degradation drug discovery platform, accelerating the clinical development of multiple molecular glue degraders to benefit a broad patient population,” said Dr. Lu Gang, Founder and CEO of GluBio.
