Using Parkinson’s Disease as an Entry Point to Promote Integrated Diagnosis and Treatment of Central Nervous System Disorders

The human central nervous system is extremely complex, making the diagnosis and treatment of related diseases a persistent clinical challenge. Common central nervous system disorders include Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease. As population aging intensifies in China, the number of patients is expected to continue rising.

Parkinson’s disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease. Data show that the prevalence of Parkinson’s disease among individuals aged 65 and older in China is 1.7%. Experts from the World Health Organization predict thatBy 2030, the number of Parkinson’s disease patients in China will reach 8 million.

Parkinson’s disease is a chronically progressive disorder with an insidious onset, making it prone to misdiagnosis and missed diagnosis in the early stages. Furthermore, its heterogeneous clinical presentation poses significant challenges for personalized treatment. As the disease progresses to moderate and advanced stages, it severely impairs patients’ quality of life and independence in activities of daily living, imposing a substantial burden on patients, their families, and the national healthcare insurance system.

GYENNO Science takes Parkinson's disease as its entry point into central nervous system disorders., has collaborated for many years with numerous top-tier universities worldwide and renowned Chinese experts in Parkinson’s disease, establishing a comprehensive spatiotemporal diagnosis and treatment system for Parkinson’s disease that encompasses innovative medical devices, clinical data platforms, and chronic disease management service platforms, focusing on diagnosis, assessment, treatment, rehabilitation, and personalized chronic disease management.

In the realm of innovative diagnostics, GYENNO Technologies has developed “RuiPing,” a wearable technology-based system for quantitative assessment and auxiliary diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease; “HEIMDALL,” a machine vision-based system for quantitative assessment and auxiliary diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease; and “RuiCloud,” a multimodal multi-omics clinical data management and intelligent analysis system for Parkinson’s disease. These solutions effectively help top-tier hospitals improve efficiency and assist lower-tier hospitals in addressing clinical challenges.

The “HEIMDALL” system is currently the world’s first and only technical framework capable of delivering complete intelligent scoring for the MDS-UPDRS scale through a single machine vision technology, filling a significant international technological gap. “RuiPing” is now widely adopted in major Parkinson’s disease clinical centers across China, empowering clinical auxiliary diagnosis and novel academic research. “RuiYun” supports five National Key R&D Programs related to Parkinson’s disease and has been deployed in 217 Grade-A tertiary hospitals nationwide, including 106 of the Top 120 hospitals, making it the most mainstream and extensively utilized multimodal multi-omics clinical data platform for Parkinson’s disease in China.

In the realm of innovative therapies, GYENNO Technologies has developed solutions tailored for out-of-hospital settings, including “RuiXing,” the world’s first gait assistance device capable of automatically detecting freezing of gait in Parkinson’s disease and providing real-time intervention; “RuiCan,” China’s first intelligent rehabilitation device that assists Parkinson’s patients with eating and quantifies hand motor symptoms; “RuiMian,” a specialized evaluation system for nocturnal motor symptoms and sleep quality in Parkinson’s patients; and “YiDongLi,” a chronic disease management APP platform for Parkinson’s disease. Leveraging its comprehensive, closed-loop technology system refined over many years, GYENNO is also exploring digital therapeutics for Parkinson’s disease.

A series of AI-based novel diagnostic, assessment, and therapeutic products and technical systems developed by GYENNO have been included in the Chinese Guidelines for the Treatment of Parkinson’s Disease (4th Edition), released in December 2020, and have gained widespread clinical recognition. Furthermore, the company has a robust pipeline of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic products under research and development, with the aim of driving substantive advancements in the field of disease diagnosis and treatment.

In 2021, GYENNO Technologies was honored with the “Enterprise of Significant Innovative Value” award on the “2021 China Sci-Tech Innovation Rising Stars List (Guangdong Regional List)” and was selected for the “2021 Shenzhen Top 100 High-Growth Enterprises,” earning recognition from government organizations, industry peers, and investment institutions.

From the perspective of disease areas,GYENNO Science is expanding from Parkinson’s disease to other central nervous system disorders., in response to the common pain points of central nervous system diseases—such as unclear mechanisms, lack of diagnostic technologies, limited treatment efficacy, and heavy disease burden—we develop innovative technologies and explore novel models for diagnosis, treatment, and disease management.

Early screening, objective assessment, standardized diagnosis, personalized treatment and rehabilitation, and full-cycle closed-loop management both in-hospital and out-of-hospital for central nervous system diseases,Interdisciplinary and Cross-Domain Collaboration and Exploration

In December 2021, GYENNO Technologies Co., Ltd. signed a cooperation agreement with Huazhong University of Science and Technology to jointly establish the Intelligent Digital Medical Technology Center for Neurological Disorders. The center focuses on scientific research in areas including human movement, behavior, and physiological sensing technologies along with multimodal information fusion methods; digital biomarkers for neurological disorders and novel diagnostic assessment technologies; data-driven digital therapeutics for neurological disorders; and novel neuromodulation technologies.

Prior to this, GYENNO, a globally leading innovative technology company in the field of Parkinson’s disease, established a global collaboration with Bastiaan R. Bloem, Member of the Academia Europaea and Professor of Neurology at Radboudumc, to further explore how China’s innovative medical technologies can deliver benefits to patients and clinical practice worldwide.

This collaboration between GYENNO Science and Roche will further accelerate and drive multidisciplinary technological innovation and the integrated innovation of care models, making new contributions to the diagnosis and treatment of central nervous system disorders.
