With the rapid development of the social economy and the accelerating pace of life, chronic diseases are becoming a major threat to people both now and in the future. Of the 58 million deaths worldwide in 2009, approximately 36 million were attributed to chronic diseases. As an important strategy and measure for addressing chronic diseases, health management is gaining increasing awareness and attention.

Against the backdrop of the “comprehensive, full-lifecycle health services” mandate outlined in the 14th Five-Year Plan, higher demands and standards have been set for tertiary sector services such as health management. Policy emphasis has shifted upstream in disease management, facilitating a transition from treatment to prevention, including for chronic diseases. The Healthy China 2030 Planning Outline explicitly identifies reducing premature mortality from major chronic diseases as one of its key indicators, calling for the implementation of comprehensive chronic disease prevention and control strategies, with the goal of achieving chronic disease health management for the entire population across the full lifecycle by 2030.

Driven by rising living standards and an aging population, public attention to personal health has intensified, fostering the gradual growth and expansion of the health industry. Since 2016, China has entered a phase of vigorous development in health management. With the release of the Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan, the state has explicitly endorsed health management assessment services, marking the formal entry of China’s health management sector into a period of sustained growth.

01
Leverage Private Domain Traffic to Capture Downstream Customers as the Primary Growth Driver

Downstream participants in China’s health management industry can be categorized into corporate clients and individual clients. Corporate clients account for approximately 70%, primarily comprising multinational corporations and large state-owned enterprises, while individual clients make up the remaining 30%, mostly consisting of high-net-worth individuals. With the development of the internet, private-domain traffic has come into prominence. In contrast to the uncertainty and public nature of public-domain traffic, private-domain traffic typically offers greater privacy, enhanced credibility, and stronger accessibility.

In recent years, with the updates and advancements in artificial intelligence, big data, and internet technologies, “digital” reforms have broken down the previous “information silos” within hospitals, making data more transparent and accessible. This has also enhanced customer proximity. By fully leveraging private-domain traffic and capturing downstream customers, the health management industry can achieve better development. As health awareness becomes increasingly ingrained in public consciousness, individual demand for health management services is growing stronger. Future demand urgently needs to be further unleashed, serving as a key driving force for the expansion of the health management market.

02
“AI+” Becomes the Mainstream Direction for the Future Development of the Health Management Industry

The “Internet + Healthcare” policy has begun to permeate the upstream sectors of the health management industry in recent years, not only driving medical device companies to establish e-commerce platforms but also more precisely and comprehensively meeting consumer demands. The emergence of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence, 5G, and big data, is propelling “AI+” to become the mainstream direction for the future development of the health management industry.

“AI+” Facilitates Remote Diagnosis and Treatment: By leveraging artificial intelligence algorithms to empower medical devices and equipment, a remote healthcare service platform is established. This approach enhances accuracy and convenience. As AI algorithms possess deep learning capabilities, their precision continuously improves with the accumulation of patient sample data. Consequently, AI-assisted medical devices make precise judgments purely from a data-driven perspective and are available on demand, unaffected by spatial constraints or human factors, thereby offering significant convenience to home users. Artificial intelligence empowers the health management industry, driving its development.

03
Leveraging Digital Advantages to Provide Systematic Health Management for Enterprise Employees

According to publicly available data, 48% of employees in Chinese enterprises are in a state of “sub-health.” Sub-health is no longer a novel term. A survey conducted by China’s Ministry of Health among office workers in ten cities revealed that the prevalence of sub-health had reached 60%, particularly in economically developed regions. The direct consequences of sub-health include reduced work efficiency and diminished labor value creation. Prolonged sub-health status poses significant harm to both the physical and mental well-being of employees. Therefore, effective health management for corporate employees is of critical importance.

By fully leveraging big data platforms and analytics, and by establishing an enterprise health management platform, organizations can rapidly connect to various high-quality healthcare resources through the platform’s capabilities. Through digital technology analysis, comprehensive lifelong digital health records for employees can be swiftly developed. Furthermore, algorithms can predict the likelihood of employees developing specific diseases or dying from such conditions within a given timeframe. Based on individual employee needs, targeted control measures, interventions, and personalized health management plans can be provided. The enterprise health management platform also delivers timely, convenient, and efficient online diagnosis and treatment services to employees.

Modern health management models shift the focus upstream by implementing preventive interventions to address and control risk factors before disease onset. By modifying individual lifestyles and behavioral habits, these models aim to slow or reverse disease progression and improve overall health status.

As the “Internet + Healthcare” policy continues to advance, it has become an inevitable trend that health management innovation in the post-pandemic era empowers individual health. Digital therapeutics, as well as oncology and chronic disease management, have become the focal points of the industry. This development is driven by the goals of facilitating economic growth and industrial structural transformation, and contributing to the construction of a Healthy China.June 15, 2022, Future Healthcare Top 100 Conference — Health Management Innovation Forum will explore industry trends from the perspectives of national policies and industrial transformation and upgrading, address multidisciplinary issues spanning academia, R&D, manufacturing, application, and investment, and build a platform for industrial exchange, cooperation, and integration.
