On May 9, Mingyi Zhizao Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Mingyi Zhizao”), an innovative company specializing in total solutions for high-throughput sequencing platforms, held the launch event for its first high-throughput sequencer in Chongqing. The event was conducted through a combination of offline attendance and online live streaming. Leaders from the Chongqing municipal and district governments, core members of Mingyi Zhizao, and industry guests attended the event. During the launch, the core technologies, detection principles, and application scenarios of the company’s first high-throughput gene sequencer, UniSeq2000™, were introduced in detail. Industry participants engaged in lively discussions on the platform’s performance across various fields.

Professor Jingyue Ju, a renowned scientist in the field of gene sequencing and Director of the Center for Genome Technology at Columbia University in the United States, stated, “The UniSeq2000™ gene sequencing system and its sequencing chemistry stem from unique innovations at the molecular level, and integrate novel optical systems and instrument design to create a new generation of monochromatic fluorescence-based high-throughput gene sequencing system with world-first technological innovations. We look forward to this sequencing platform making outstanding contributions to global life sciences research, medical testing, and precision medicine development in the near future.”
Professor Huang Ailong, President of Chongqing Medical University, stated, “At present, China’s high-throughput sequencing platforms rely mainly on imported brands. The high cost of sequencing instruments and reagents has constrained the development of the domestic genetic testing industry. The launch of Mingyi Zhizao’s UniSeq2000™ monochrome fluorescence high-throughput gene sequencing platform signals the rise of a new force in domestically produced gene sequencers.”
In his address, Dr. Wu Jian, Chairman of Mingyi Intelligent Manufacturing, stated that high-throughput sequencing technology has reduced the cost of sequencing an individual’s genome from $1 billion to just a few thousand yuan, sparking an “industrial revolution” in the field of genetic diagnostics. He described high-throughput sequencers as the “steam engines” of this industrial revolution. The key technologies involved had long been monopolized by foreign companies. Currently, Mingyi Intelligent Manufacturing has established R&D centers in New York, Beijing, and Shenzhen, focusing on the development of gene sequencing analysis platforms and related technologies. The company aims to be a pioneer in domestic substitution for these critical, bottleneck technologies, achieving full localization of sequencer-related hardware, software, reagents, and consumables.

At the press conference, Dr. Chen Xin, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer of Mingyi Intelligent Manufacturing, stated, “The UniSeq2000™ is a novel single-color fluorescence high-throughput gene sequencer with independent intellectual property rights, equipped with proprietary sequencing chips and compatible reagent kits. With its flexible design supporting multiple sequencing modes, the UniSeq2000™ achieves a Q30 score of over 80% and generates 80–320 million reads per run. It is particularly well-suited for localized laboratory needs and research centers processing small sample volumes on a daily basis. By eliminating the need to batch samples, it significantly shortens the overall testing turnaround time, addressing the key challenges hospitals face regarding the difficulty and high cost of initiating local sequencing operations.”
During the Industry Witness segment of the press conference, we were honored to invite Professor Tian Yaping, Chairman of the Clinical Data and Sample Resources Professional Committee of the Chinese Research Hospital Association, and Dr. Ji Tianrong, General Manager of Taiyu Investment, to deliver remarks.

During the industry witness segment of the press conference, experts in basic research and industry applications were also invited to witness and share insights on the performance of the UniSeq2000™ platform across various application fields.
Dr. Guo Wenhu, Chief Technology Officer of AgiGene, stated, “The analysis results show that the types and abundance of microbes detected by UniSeq2000™ are generally consistent with those from international company platforms. The Mingyi Zhizao UniSeq2000™ sequencing system achieves performance comparable to similar sequencers in mNGS pathogen detection, and its results are largely consistent with clinical findings. The cost advantage of this platform will greatly promote the widespread application of metagenomic testing in clinical practice.”
Teacher Kuoying from the Center for Genetic Medicine at Peking University Third Hospital shared the performance of CNV-seq on the Mingyi Zhizao sequencing platform. In terms of detection results, the UniSeq2000™ platform effectively identifies negative samples, demonstrates good sequencing uniformity, and can accurately identify trisomies and mosaicism, while also detecting microduplications as small as 1.4 Mb. These results are fully consistent with those of similar sequencing platforms, indicating that the UniSeq2000™ can be widely applied in clinical research related to CNV-seq technology.

Mr. Yang Rentao, Deputy General Manager of MegaMed Clinical Laboratory, shared the application of targeted metagenomics based on multiplex PCR technology on the UniSeq2000™ platform. Comparative results demonstrated that blind testing of targeted metagenomic samples on the UniSeq2000™ platform yielded consistent performance with comparable international sequencing platforms in pathogen identification, resistance gene detection, and mutation site analysis of resistance genes.
Professor Huang Rongzhong from the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University stated, “The UniSeq2000™ sequencing system by Mingyi Zhizao demonstrated performance in detecting positive quality control samples for multiple pathogens that is on par with similar sequencers, with completely consistent detection results.”
