In recent years, driven by the triple forces of technological advancements, capital infusion, and policy support, China’s innovative drug industry has entered a new cycle of rapid development. New technologies such as small-molecule targeted therapies, monoclonal antibodies, bispecific antibodies, antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), cell therapies, PROTACs, and nucleic acid drugs are increasingly maturing, with a growing number of products advancing to the commercialization stage, including many with blockbusters potential.
For innovative pharmaceutical companies, in addition to intensifying R&D innovation and continuing to climb up the high end of the value chain, the key to accelerating the implementation of innovations and driving commercial success of their products lies in how they combine product characteristics with commercialization strategies that align with their own resource endowments.
To this end, market players in different ecological niches have leveraged their respective strengths. Big Pharma, with its strong commercialization capabilities, chooses to further enrich and refine its product pipeline through license-in arrangements to save R&D time and costs. Biopharma companies, which maintain multiple pipelines, continue to consolidate their competitive advantages through both license-in and license-out strategies. Driven by R&D, Biotech firms primarily generate revenue through license-out deals, laying the foundation for their subsequent transformation into Biopharma entities.
In this context, the strength of business development (BD) capabilities has become increasingly critical to the future growth of pharmaceutical companies. Gaining an in-depth understanding of BD trends within the industry and integrating them with a company’s own needs is not only a logical imperative but also essential for survival and development.
In this session, DXY Insight Online Lecture Hall, in collaboration with VBInsight New Medicine, specially invites Mr. Wang Yong, VP of Business Development at CMS Biotech and Investment Director at China Medical System (CMS) Hong Kong Venture Capital, to present on the theme “How Large Pharmaceutical Companies Can Achieve Transformation and Innovation Through Business Development in the New Landscape.” He will outline the new changes and trends in business development within the industry, helping you build core competencies based on BD.
