On May 12, Sichuan Friendship Hospital, under Haier’s health ecosystem brand Yingkang Yisheng, held a commendation ceremony to celebrate International Nurses Day. The event recognized two outstanding nursing teams and 88 individual nurses for their exceptional performance. Since achieving Grade A Tertiary General Hospital status in April 2021, the hospital’s Nursing Department has made continuous breakthroughs in disciplinary development over the past year, achieving zero-to-one progress in national-level continuing education projects and patent commercialization. By constantly innovating nursing models and exploring a whole-process oncology nursing model, the department provides patients with comprehensive care services spanning from hospitalization to home-based recovery, thereby establishing a distinctive nursing brand.
Continuous Breakthroughs in Discipline Development: Undertaking National-Level Continuing Education Programs
Applying for and hosting national-level continuing education programs is one of the important ways to facilitate academic exchanges in the discipline area, and it also serves as a significant indicator of nursing academic standards. In 2021, the Nursing Department of Sichuan Friendship Hospital was approved for one provincial-level continuing education project. In 2022, it secured one municipal-level continuing education project, one provincial-level continuing education project, and one national-level continuing education project (“Seminar on Nursing Management and Infection Prevention and Control in Primary Hospitals in the Post-Pandemic Era”). As one of the first four private Grade A tertiary hospitals in Sichuan Province, Sichuan Friendship Hospital is also the first private hospital in Sichuan to undertake a national-level continuing education project.
To enhance the academic proficiency and research capabilities of nursing staff, and to raise the profile of the “Friendship Nursing Team” within the industry, the Nursing Department of Sichuan Friendship Hospital has leveraged continuing education initiatives to steadily advance disciplinary development. By strengthening academic and research competencies across multiple domains—including academic publications, patented technologies, and research projects—the department aims to establish a distinguished nursing brand. Since 2020, it has successfully hosted two annual conferences on nursing management, featuring presentations of outstanding nursing papers. On average, 70 academic papers are published annually. The research awareness and capabilities of nursing personnel have continued to strengthen; the hospital has filed 16 applications for utility model patents, with seven patents already granted.
Exploring the Full-Process Nursing Model for Oncology
As a Grade 3A comprehensive hospital with a specialty in oncology, Sichuan Friendship Hospital has continuously explored and innovated the full-process nursing service model for cancer care.
As a chronic disease, cancer subjects patients to multifaceted physical, psychological, and financial pressures, often leading to negative and extreme emotional states. Coupled with factors such as the patient’s physical condition and the specific characteristics of medications, this places higher demands on nursing care. For instance, the administration of chemotherapy drugs—where issues like repeated venipuncture or drug extravasation can occur—not only compromises treatment efficacy but also causes significant trauma. Therefore, nurses must possess strong psychological resilience, advanced professional skills, and a broad knowledge base.
In response to the challenges of achieving high-quality development in oncology nursing, the Nursing Department of Sichuan Friendship Hospital remains committed to serving patients with utmost sincerity and treating them with highly specialized and practical expertise. Through continuous practice and iterative improvement, the department has established professional nursing teams grounded in technical proficiency, including those focused on intravenous therapy, psychological counseling, nutritional support, pain management, and rehabilitation. By enhancing service capabilities across multiple dimensions, the hospital provides comprehensive care spanning the entire continuum from in-hospital treatment to home-based rehabilitation.
Accelerating IT Infrastructure Development to Achieve Homogenized Growth with Public Grade-A Tertiary Hospitals
Sichuan Youyi Hospital currently employs 469 nursing staff, 94% of whom hold an associate degree or higher, including 36 specialized nurses. Since its inception, Sichuan Youyi Hospital has aimed to achieve Grade 3A hospital status, adopting the mature management model of public Grade 3A hospitals and adhering to the detailed evaluation criteria for national tertiary general hospitals. The hospital has established a three-tier nursing quality management committee structure at the hospital, department, and ward levels. Nursing personnel undergo tiered training from N0 to N4, striving to achieve homogeneous development with public hospitals.
With the development of information technologies such as cloud computing, big data, the Internet of Things (IoT), blockchain, and mobile internet, as well as the advancement of smart hospitals and the “Internet + Healthcare” initiative, the informatization of nursing has become a key focus in hospital development.
In the smart wards of the General Surgery Department at Sichuan Friendship Hospital, nursing services have gone paperless, effectively helping medical staff address the issue of manual information processing over the “last 50 meters” from the nurses’ station to the bedside, significantly improving nursing quality and service efficiency. Currently, nursing informatization has been included as a key priority for the hospital, which will accelerate the upgrade of its nursing management system in the near future.
On the eve of International Nurses Day, the National Health Commission issued the "National Nursing Development Plan (2021-2025)" to further optimize the allocation of nursing resources, improve and refine a nursing service system with clear positioning and collaborative division of labor among different medical institutions, specify that tertiary hospitals shall primarily provide nursing care for patients with complex, acute, and critical conditions, and strengthen disciplinary development and talent cultivation in nursing.
Looking ahead, Sichuan Friendship Hospital will continue to advance the development of its nursing discipline, address existing weaknesses, and strive to build a key nursing discipline from both the “quality” and “quantity” dimensions. This effort aims to contribute to the high-quality, sustainable development of Yingkang Yisheng and jointly create an ecosystem brand encompassing the entire tumor care industry chain, including prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation.
