The “14th Five-Year Plan” for National Health, released recently, explicitly calls for promoting the application of the Internet in areas such as chronic disease management and healthcare services.

In response to the growing demand for health management among users, Alibaba Health and Huiyi Tianxia Internet Medical Platform (“Huiyi Tianxia”) signed a strategic cooperation agreement on June 6. The two parties will leverage their respective strengths in the field of internet healthcare to build a new service model for health management, improve patients’ quality of life, and effectively control the burden of chronic diseases.

In accordance with the terms of collaboration, both parties will join forces with ZhongAn Insurance to co-develop “An Tang Bao,” an “Internet+” chronic disease insurance product dedicated to serving patients with diabetes, and jointly create a new model for out-of-hospital management that is sustainable and scalable.

As a product specifically designed for patients with diabetes, “AnTangBao” integrates resources to provide comprehensive, full-cycle health services. These include online consultations and prescription management by professional physicians, science-based patient education and blood glucose control via specialized platforms, and insurance claims processing. By covering both online and offline scenarios, it delivers efficient, high-quality out-of-hospital management services, ensuring that insured patients are no longer left without adequate health protection.

Alibaba Health and Huiyi Tianxia will leverage their respective strengths to integrate the innovative value of “medical care, pharmaceuticals, and insurance,” thereby establishing a new service model for health management. This model aims to address the diverse needs across different stages of disease progression—including mild conditions, complications, and critical illnesses—by providing professional disease management solutions.

Regarding this strategic partnership, Zhu Shunyan, Chairman and CEO of Alibaba Health, stated, “Leveraging our leading digital technology and operational capabilities, with ‘cloud infrastructure’ as the foundation, ‘cloud pharmacy’ as the core, and ‘cloud hospital’ as the engine, we aim to collaborate with more industry partners to provide inclusive, convenient, efficient, and safe healthcare services to hundreds of millions of families.” In the broader health sector, Alibaba Health boasts a large-scale internet user platform and a rich supply of medical and health services. In recent years, it has joined forces with multiple insurance industry partners to create integrated health management and protection services that cover the entire disease lifecycle, spanning medical care, pharmaceuticals, and insurance. Chen Bo, Vice President of Alibaba Health, also remarked, “Through collaboration with Huiyi Tianxia, Alibaba Health will closely integrate chronic disease coverage with its extensive medical and health services. By better integrating professional health services via our internet healthcare platform and shifting health management upstream to address the needs of chronic disease patients, we aim to effectively reduce the risk of complications and improve quality of life.”

At the signing ceremony, Wang Lei, Global Executive Vice President of AstraZeneca and President of International Business and China, attended as a special guest. He outlined his vision for the future of chronic disease management, expressing confidence that innovative commercial health insurance will become a key pillar in delivering lifelong health services, and looked forward to greater participation from partners in building a comprehensive chronic disease ecosystem.

As a smart healthcare digital platform covering the entire industry chain, Huiyi Tianxia focuses on internet-based chronic disease management by addressing the needs of both doctors and patients. It provides a closed-loop service ecosystem encompassing early screening, online consultations, follow-up management, and patient education. Chen Hua, CEO of Huiyi Tianxia, stated, “Only by enabling specialist physicians to provide professional assistance to patients with specific conditions can health management truly achieve its goal of alleviating patient burden. Moving forward, Huiyi Tianxia will continue to innovate and explore across more disease areas, developing personalized products tailored to address the unique pain points of different patient groups.”
