VCBeat (WeChat: vcbeat) has learned that recently,QUANMAG(hereinafter referred to as“QUANMAG”) CompletedTens of Millions in Pre-A RoundFinancing. This round of financing was led byNaton Technology GroupLead Investor,FreeS FundCo-investment, primarily used forStrengthen the technical team, increase R&D investment, and expand the pipeline

Established in 2019, QUANMAG is a technology-driven enterprise strategically supported by Beijing Municipality for its presence in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector. The company currently focuses on the independent development of high-end biomagnetic imaging equipment for brain science and neurological disorders, with its core product beingNext-Generation Quantum Magnetoencephalography System,The product has taken the lead in achieving sales and research installations in China. The company's clinical quantum magnetoencephalography (MEG) product for medical applications has entered the registration application phase. This round of financing will also accelerate the progress of product certification and approval, with registration expected to be completed in 2023, enabling large-scale clinical sales.

QUANMAG’s core technologies and founding team originate from Peking University. The company boasts an engineering management team with experience from renowned Fortune 500 medical groups such as GE and Philips, as well as R&D backbone personnel from top domestic and international universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, and University College London (UCL). Currently, R&D and engineering technical staff account for over 80% of the workforce, and the team continues to expand.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) is a safe, non-invasive, and cutting-edge brain functional imaging technique. It works by capturing the weak magnetic signals generated by neuronal excitation in the human brain, thereby enabling real-time monitoring of neural activity. MEG can be used for auxiliary diagnosis and preoperative assessment of patients with brain disorders such as epilepsy, and it also has extensive application value in scientific research fields including life sciences, brain science, psychology, and linguistics. All superconducting MEG systems currently available in China are imported. Due to factors such as high system equipment costs, weak detector signals, and stringent requirements for the operating environment, the number of installed units in China is fewer than 20.

Dr. Sheng Jingwei, Founder and CEO of QUANMAGIntroduction: The company has achieved breakthroughs in cutting-edge quantum sensor technology for magnetoencephalography—specifically atomic magnetometry—and, by integrating magnetic shielding with magnetic inversion techniques, has developed a new-generation quantum magnetoencephalography (MEG) system and realized independent industrialization. This innovation disrupts and replaces existing imported superconducting MEG systems. Compared with traditional superconducting equipment, the quantum MEG system delivers a substantial enhancement in brain magnetic signal detection and offers advantages such as flexibility and portability, high individual compatibility, and reduced manufacturing and maintenance costs. These features enable broad future applications in frontier fields including scientific research, clinical diagnosis of brain disorders, and brain–computer interfaces.

QUANMAG's Self-Developed Next-Generation Quantum Magnetoencephalography System

Currently, QUANMAG has completedThe first quantum magnetoencephalography (MEG) system for research purposes was installed in China, with cumulative revenue from the research market reaching tens of millions of yuan.In recent years, the company has successively obtained qualifications and honors such as National High-Tech Enterprise, Beijing Technology-Based SME, and Top 10 in Medical Devices at the Zhongguancun Frontier Technology Innovation Competition. It has also received support for disruptive technology R&D and achievement transformation projects from Zhongguancun. The company has established deep collaborative partnerships with top-tier domestic research and clinical institutions, including Peking University, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and Beijing Sanbo Brain Hospital. Furthermore, it participates in the preparatory co-construction of multiple national major basic scientific facilities or projects, including the Multimodal Cross-Scale Biomedical Imaging Facility (Huairou, Beijing).

Professor Gao Jiahong, Chief Scientist at QUANMAGstated: “Magnetoencephalography is the ‘crown jewel’ of the field of biomagnetic detection”, the novel magnetoencephalography (MEG) based on quantum sensing is internationally recognized as the next-generation neuroimaging technology. The performance indicators of QUANMAG’s quantum MEG have reached an internationally leading level. The company should seize this historic opportunity to develop cutting-edge medical imaging products with independent intellectual property rights, break the technological monopoly held by foreign countries in various high-end instruments and equipment, and achieve “overtaking on a bend” in its field., contributing to China's Brain Science Initiative.

Jin Lei, Deputy General Manager of the Strategic Investment Department at Natong Technology Groupstated: “The quantum magnetoencephalography (MEG) system developed by QUANMAG can non-invasively and without radiation detect magnetic field signals generated by neuronal activity in the brain. With both high temporal and spatial resolution, it represents one of the most cutting-edge technologies in the field of brain functional imaging. It is currently being applied in brain function research as well as in the diagnosis and treatment of clinical brain disorders, boasting broad market prospects. Natong Group is delighted to support QUANMAG and looks forward to jointly creating greater value for China’s brain health initiatives.”

Xie Da, Head of Early-Stage Projects at FreeS Fundstated: “Brain science is hailed as the ‘last frontier’ of human technology.”The complexity of brain systems, the critical importance of brain cognitive data, and the scarcity of clinical diagnostic and therapeutic tools for brain disorders make the field of brain science vast, profound, and intricate. Leveraging its proprietary core technological barriers, QUANMAG’s quantum magnetoencephalography (MEG) system offers whole-brain coverage, non-invasiveness, high spatiotemporal resolution, and low maintenance costs, delivering leading technology and advancements in the field of brain measurement. FreeS Fund is honored to participate in this round of financing for QUANMAG and will continue to provide support. We look forward to MEG becoming a vital infrastructure for cognitive science and a key tool for the clinical diagnosis of brain disorders, thereby unlocking greater possibilities for brain-computer integration.
