Recently, Beijing Danqing Pharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. (“Danqing Pharma”) announced the completion of its angel financing round, raising tens of millions of yuan. The round was exclusively invested by Med-Fine Health Fund.
Danqing Pharma is an innovation-driven drug R&D company based in China with a global outlook, dedicated to developing first-in-class (FIC) drugs targeting the precision oncology 2.0 era, in order to meet patients’ clinical needs and advance medical innovation.
Danqing Pharmaceuticals is headquartered in Beijing, China, with a branch center in Boston, United States. Founded and led by national-level overseas-returnee scientists, the founding team possesses extensive practical experience in new drug creation and R&D management, having spearheaded the market launch of multiple innovative drugs with global impact. Eighty-five percent of its core R&D team hold master’s degrees or higher, making outstanding and sustained contributions to oncology drug development.
The company boasts a 3,000-square-meter, world-class R&D laboratory designed to establish a unique new drug development system and a multidisciplinary integrated technology platform. This includes the DQDD drug discovery platform, which integrates structural biology, computational chemistry, medicinal chemistry, and bioinformatics, supported by specialized operational support departments. Currently, there are five First-in-class new drug projects under development, with multiple PCT international invention patents filed.
Dr. Zhou Wenlai, the founder, completed his postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego in the United States, and subsequently led the R&D of innovative oncology drugs at Novartis Pharmaceuticals. From 2015 to 2021, as Chief Biologist and senior executive at Jacobio Pharmaceuticals, he planned and oversaw the implementation of the company’s overall development strategy, pipeline portfolio, and strategic collaborations. He also played a key leadership role in the SHP2 project and its global co-development partnership with AbbVie in the United States. This represents a landmark case of Chinese small-molecule innovative drugs entering the international arena and stands as one of the largest out-licensing deals by transaction value.
Co-founder Dr. Jincong Zhuo completed his postdoctoral research at the College of Pharmacy, The Ohio State University, before transitioning to the pharmaceutical industry. As a Principal Investigator at Incyte Corporation, a globally renowned pharmaceutical company, Dr. Zhuo was the primary inventor of two precision oncology drugs: capmatinib and pemigatinib. Capmatinib (brand name Tabrecta™) received U.S. FDA approval in 2020 for the treatment of patients with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) harboring MET exon 14 skipping mutations. In April of the same year, the U.S. FDA granted accelerated approval to pemigatinib (brand name Pemazyre) for the treatment of patients with cholangiocarcinoma featuring FGFR2 fusions or rearrangements. This March, pemigatinib (brand name Dafaitan), licensed by Innovent Biologics, received approval from China’s National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) for marketing in China. Additionally, Dr. Zhuo has advanced more than ten drug candidates into various stages of clinical development.
