On the morning of August 5, the 2022 World Health Expo opened at the Wuhan International Expo Center, with 24 selected projects signed on-site, totaling RMB 44.375 billion.

“The splendid Chinese culture and the diligent Chinese people have left a deep impression on me.” At the opening ceremony, Aaron Ciechanover, winner of the 2004 Nobel Prize in Chemistry and foreign member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, stated that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Israel. Over the past three decades, bilateral relations have continued to develop, with increasingly close cooperation in economics and trade, science and technology, cultural exchanges, and medicine. He expressed confidence that by further strengthening cooperation across various fields, including healthcare, China-Israel relations will reach new heights.

Aaron Ciechanover stated that health is an enduring topic for humanity, a fundamental requirement for promoting comprehensive human development, a foundational condition for economic and social progress, and a significant indicator of national prosperity. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the health of its people, shifting the focus from disease treatment to population health. It is currently making vigorous efforts to implement the Outline of the Healthy China 2030 Plan, achieving notable results.

“In the field of life and health, there are still many topics that require our continued in-depth exploration and research, including promoting health literacy, optimizing health services, improving medical security, building a healthy environment, and developing the health industry. Addressing these issues demands our collective efforts,” said Aaron Ciechanover. “The 2022 World Health Expo has provided us with a high-level platform for exchange and communication. Government dignitaries, academicians, experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs have gathered together to engage in in-depth discussions on the development trends of the general health industry, showcase the latest technological achievements, and plan for future prospects, which will strongly promote the rapid development of the global health cause.”

“The big health industry is an intelligence-intensive, talent-intensive, and technology-intensive sector,” introduced Mr. Chen Dongsheng, President of the Hubei Entrepreneurs Federation, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Taikang Insurance Group. He noted that Hubei Province and Wuhan City boast unique advantages in regional transportation, as well as in science, education, and talent. With a nationally leading foundation in biopharmaceuticals, medical schools and affiliated hospitals of two prestigious universities—Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Wuhan University—and a cohort of leading enterprises in various sub-sectors of the big health industry, these elements constitute a solid foundation for propelling the big health industry in Hubei and Wuhan toward a trillion-yuan output value.

Chen Dongsheng stated that, under the careful guidance of the National Health Commission and the strong leadership of the Hubei Provincial Party Committee and Government as well as the Wuhan Municipal Party Committee and Government, the World Health Expo aims to be built into a platform integrating industry, academia, and research by gathering global health talent, technological capital, and ideas; into a platform for international and domestic cooperation and exchange in the general health industry; and into an innovation and entrepreneurship platform for investment and business development in the general health industry both at home and abroad, jointly fostering a healthy era of longevity.

At the opening ceremony, 24 selected projects were signed on-site, with a total investment amounting to RMB 44.375 billion. These projects included Wuhan’s “Central China Innovation Ecosystem Demonstration Zone for Health and Headquarters Economy” project, Wuhan’s “Sinopharm Pharmaceutical and Health Modern Logistics Base” project, Xiangyang’s “Pharmaceutical Intermediate Production Investment Project by Yuzhou Biopharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd.,” and Yichang’s “Medical-Chemical Industry” project.

It is reported that this World Health Expo adopted a hybrid online and offline format, attracting more than 1,000 domestic and international enterprises to exhibit. Experts, scholars, and entrepreneur representatives from 15 countries attended the event. Leading companies in the health industry, including Siemens, Philips, GE Healthcare, United Imaging, Taikang Insurance Group, Sinopharm, Jointown Pharmaceutical Group, Humanwell Healthcare, Lunan Pharmaceutical Group, Grand Pharma, Easyhome, and Juneyao Group, showcased their new products, technologies, and achievements.

During the Health Expo, parallel forums—including the High-Level Forum on the Big Health Industry, the Academician and Expert Forum, and the Longevity Era High-Level Forum—along with new product launch events, will be held concurrently. Notably, the online Academician and Expert Forum will bring together a distinguished assembly of leading figures.
