From August 19 to 21, the Greater Bay Area Rehabilitation Medicine Forum of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine (CARM) and the 2022 Annual Academic Conference of the Guangdong Provincial Association of Rehabilitation Medicine were grandly held in Guangzhou. Distinguished attendees included Academician Su Guohui from the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Chen Lidian, President of CARM; Professor Li Jian’an, International Fellow of the American National Academy of Medicine; Researcher Hou Zengguang from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences; Professor Leung Kwok-fai, Vice President of the Occupational Therapy Board of Hong Kong; and Professor Yan Tiebin, Vice President of CARM, along with other renowned academicians and experts in related fields across China. More than 2,000 participants attended in person, while over 50,000 joined online, coming together to share in this academic feast.

Rehabilitation medicine is a vital component of the national healthcare system. As one of China’s most open and dynamic regions, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area plays a leading role in advancing high-end rehabilitation medicine. At the main forum, distinguished invited guests delivered insightful speeches on foundational research, cutting-edge technologies, industrial opportunities, industry extension, and sector development. The event also featured a dedicated online main forum, where rehabilitation experts from Hong Kong, Macao, and the broader Greater Bay Area engaged in discussions on the future of rehabilitation development.

The forum featured 21 specialized sessions covering areas such as pain rehabilitation, respiratory rehabilitation, and physical therapy, spanning clinical rehabilitation, rehabilitation subspecialties, and rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation professionals gathered to engage in extensive academic exchange and discussion on topics including the application of innovative technologies in rehabilitation medicine and the empowerment of rehabilitation care through intelligent systems.

Highlights from the Parallel Sessions
Medical advancements are inseparable from innovation; technological innovation and the translation of research findings into practical applications are key drivers propelling the development of rehabilitation medicine. Organized by the Guangdong Provincial Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, the “2022 Guangdong Provincial Association of Rehabilitation Medicine Innovation Achievements Exhibition” featured intense competition among submitted projects. Following expert selection, 12 projects were shortlisted, with five outstanding projects presenting their roadshows at the conference venue.

The conference also featured exhibitions by more than 80 companies showcasing high-intelligence, high-tech, and high-quality products, including rehabilitation assistive devices, rehabilitation therapy equipment, and clinical medications for rehabilitation, serving as a comprehensive review of the integrated strength of China’s rehabilitation medical industry and enterprises.
