With the continuous development of mobile internet and the successive introduction of national incentive policies, the integration of the internet with healthcare services has ushered in a new era. Internet healthcare is playing an increasingly important role in optimizing the patient experience, reshaping healthcare service scenarios, and promoting the balanced distribution of medical resources. Supported by ongoing policy initiatives and driven by continuous industry exploration, the internet healthcare sector is flourishing.
Notably, since the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, user acceptance in this field has risen rapidly, accelerating the overall development of internet healthcare. According to reports, the market size of China’s internet healthcare industry grew from RMB 56.6 billion in 2017 to RMB 214.5 billion in 2021, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 39.5%. In addition to traditional medical institutions, internet companies, IT service providers, and pharmaceutical enterprises have also entered the “Internet+” healthcare market, continuously exploring internet healthcare development models suited to their respective characteristics.
In recent years, a dense array of relevant policies—from top-level design to specific regulations and implementation guidelines—have been introduced, marking the entry of China’s internet healthcare sector into a phase of policy-driven standardization. In this new stage, the key to accelerating the development of internet healthcare lies in leveraging internet tools more effectively, securing core medical resources, and enhancing service delivery capabilities. This is also essential for fostering collaboration and dialogue between healthcare institutions and internet healthcare platforms.
