Carcell Biopharma Launches Integrated R&D and Manufacturing Facility in Shanghai

On September 21, 2022, the grand opening ceremony of Kemeixin (Shanghai) Biopharmaceutical Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Kemeixin”) was held in Shanghai Waigaoqiao. Mr. Zhao Yugang, Deputy Director of the Bonded Zone Administration Bureau of the China (Shanghai) Pilot Free Trade Zone Administrative Committee; Mr. Zhang Hao, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Group Co., Ltd. and Chairman of New Development Company; and Mr. Zhou Fabiao, General Manager of Shanghai Waigaoqiao Bonded Zone New Development Co., Ltd., attended the event.

At the commencement of the event, Ms. Wu Lanlin, General Manager of Kemeixin, extended a warm welcome on behalf of all employees to the distinguished leaders, colleagues, investors, and media representatives present. She remarked: “One year ago, under the incubation of EVX Ventures, a biomedical incubator in Singapore, Kemeixin officially established its presence in Shanghai. Today, we have completed the construction of our integrated R&D and production base in Waigaoqiao. One year ago, Kemeixin embarked on its journey with a ‘Best-in-Class’ strategy; today, we have achieved ‘First-in-Class’ status. The completion of this facility will provide a solid hardware foundation for our drug development efforts. Centered on our two core technologies—‘innovative engineered red blood cell technology’ and ‘non-viral vector gene delivery technology based on lipid nanoparticles’—we are seizing the opportunity to lead internationally, focusing on ‘novel delivery systems’ to create ‘new hope.’”

At the opening ceremony, Mr. Lin Xiangqian, Founder of the biopharmaceutical incubator EVX Ventures as well as Founder and Chairman of Kemeixin (Kemexin), first extended his sincere gratitude to the leaders and guests present. He stated that, drawing on his many years of study, work, and entrepreneurial experience in the United States, and driven by a heartfelt desire to contribute to his homeland, he established Kemeixin with a focus on the biopharmaceutical sector. The company has assembled an R&D team comprising top scientists from Tsinghua University, Fudan University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, and the National University of Singapore, alongside a management team with extensive industrialization experience at globally renowned cell and gene therapy companies. Leveraging “China Speed,” he is committed to working with his team to uphold the “Healthy China Dream,” establish a foothold in Waigaoqiao, build a “Novel Delivery” platform, and jointly create “New Hope” worldwide!

Mr. Zhang Hao delivered a congratulatory address on behalf of Waigaoqiao Group and New Development Company. He noted that Waigaoqiao, as the core area of China’s first bonded zone, the first import trade promotion and innovation demonstration zone, and the first pilot free trade zone, has attracted and gathered 838 domestic and international biopharmaceutical companies. Today, Kemexin’s integrated R&D and production base was officially launched, marking a historic milestone that signifies the formal establishment in China, and specifically in Shanghai, of “innovative engineered red blood cell technology” and “lipid nanoparticle-based non-viral vector gene delivery technology.” We are confident that Kemexin will take root and flourish in the fertile ground of China’s biopharmaceutical industry.
