Countdown to the 2022 China Eye Valley Global Ophthalmic Innovation and Entrepreneurship Challenge – Shortlist Competition Approaches!
To thoroughly implement the spirit of the “14th Five-Year Plan for National Eye Health (2021–2025),” continuously promote high-quality development of China’s eye health sector, actively introduce high-caliber talent and intellectual resources from both domestic and overseas sources, strengthen innovation incubation, and build a world-class hub for scientific and technological innovation and talent in the eye health industry, the Global Optometry and Vision Science Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition was launched to establish Wenzhou as a benchmark city for optometry and vision science in China. The “2022 China Eye Valley Global Challenge on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Optometry and Vision Science,” hosted by the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology and the Wenzhou Municipal People’s Government, and co-organized by China Eye Valley together with the Eye Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University and other relevant institutions, commenced its online project solicitation in mid-September 2022.
As per the competition schedule, the online registration and submission phase will enter its final stage by October 31, 2022. The preliminary round of the competition is imminent, at which time there will beMultiple Leading Ophthalmology Experts and Prominent Investors in ChinaServing as judges for the evaluation. The offline finals, featuring events such as the Challenge Finals and the Industry Summit, will be held concurrently with the World Young Scientists Summit from November 11 to November 12, 2022. All finalists will engage in face-to-face discussions with industry leaders in Longwan, Wenzhou, to explore the future of the industry.
It is reported that since the inaugural competition was launched in 2019, this event has been held for three consecutive sessions, attracting over 400 high-level innovation and entrepreneurship teams from China and abroad. These teams compete in fields such as optometric pharmaceuticals, medical devices, clinical diagnostic technologies, consumables, eye care products, and 3D printing materials; as well as optometric cloud computing, AI technology, big data, internet healthcare, consumer medical services, online health consultation, visual health management, medical insurance, and other medical device sectors. Amidst a favorable industrial environmentDriven by multiple factors, including a favorable environment, robust policy support, and active market capital, the initiative has successfully attracted and settled a batch of high-end, cutting-edge projects. It has emerged as an influential brand for talent acquisition and intellectual resource recruitment, gaining recognition not only from entrepreneurs and innovative enterprises in the eye health industry’s science and technology innovation sector but also fostering a virtuous cycle of innovation where “talent-driven innovative projects attract high-quality enterprises, which in turn propel industrial development.”
Eligible participants must be under 55 years of age and meet at least one of the following criteria: hold more than one invention patent; possess a master’s degree or higher; hold a senior professional title (associate senior level or above); or qualify as Category E or above in the Wenzhou High-Level Talent Classification Directory. Participants may apply individually or as a team, but each participant is limited to submitting only one project. Team members must have maintained a stable collaborative relationship for at least one year. The products or services proposed in the entry must be inventions, creations, or patented technologies owned by or licensed to the participant, with lawful intellectual property rights. Participants are required to prepare a comprehensive and feasible business plan, covering aspects such as project technology, market prospects, operational strategies, funding requirements, team member profiles, and future plans. Applicants must demonstrate a clear intention to innovate and start businesses in Wenzhou, except for projects already established in Wenzhou prior to January 1, 2021.
