Project Background

Oral health is an integral component of overall health and serves as a key indicator of the physical and mental well-being and level of civilization of residents in a country or region. The development of the oral healthcare industry requires not only guiding the high-quality development of oral healthcare services, but also promoting the innovation and upgrading of domestically produced oral medical devices, as well as driving technological breakthroughs in oral healthcare technology.

KPMG China has long maintained a close watch on the development trends of China’s healthcare industry. Through this public welfare initiative in the dental sector, we aim to identify exemplary benchmark enterprises in the dental care market, facilitate the healthy growth of more high-quality private dental healthcare providers, and jointly explore emerging trends for the future development of China’s dental care market from a global perspective, thereby supporting the transformation and rise of China’s dental healthcare industry.

Awards and Evaluation Criteria

The inaugural “Top 50 Private Dental Healthcare Enterprises in China” selection will adhere to the principles of independence, impartiality, and objectivity. It will conduct a comprehensive assessment of participating enterprises’ core capabilities based on five key evaluation dimensions—technological innovation, market application, capital recognition, operational management, and social responsibility—encompassing dozens of specific indicators. The process will be carried out through four stages: expert review and evaluation methodology development, open enterprise registration, on-site visits to participating enterprises, and collective deliberation by the review experts. The final report is scheduled to be released at a summit forum in late November.

The current awards list focuses on the upstream, midstream, and downstream segments of the dental medical industry chain, featuring three major categories: the Advanced Dental Manufacturing Award, the Leading Dental Service Brand Award, and the Cutting-Edge Dental Technology Enterprise Award. The evaluation process involved experts from public medical institutions, industry associations, and third-party research organizations. These experts conducted on-site inspections of participating companies to accurately assess their development potential and provided targeted matchmaking and guidance based on corporate needs. The final results were determined through a comprehensive evaluation.

The “Top 50 Private Dental Healthcare Enterprises in China” is part of KPMG China’s “Healthcare 50” series. In 2021, KPMG China focused on the rehabilitation healthcare sector and selected the “Top 50 Private Rehabilitation Healthcare Enterprises in China,” drawing attention from all sectors of society to the rehabilitation healthcare industry and promoting its healthy development.

In 2022, KPMG China placed significant emphasis on the oral healthcare industry. In recent years, China’s oral healthcare sector has continued to develop steadily. The oral healthcare services industry is poised to unleash substantial latent consumer demand, thereby compelling the upgrading and iteration of traditional oral service models. Policy support has, to a certain extent, driven innovation and upgrades in China’s dental medical device industry, accelerating the localization of products such as clear aligners, dentures, and dental implants. Meanwhile, the oral health technology sector has achieved continuous breakthroughs, optimizing the application of information technologies—including artificial intelligence, 3D printing, and the Internet of Things (IoT)—within the oral healthcare industry. As public awareness of oral health continues to rise, there will be broad market opportunities ahead for oral healthcare services, dental medical devices, and oral health technologies alike.
