Nov 05, 2022 18:00 CST Updated 18:00

Today, the 5th China International Import Expo opened in Shanghai. As a “veteran” participant of the CIIE, AstraZeneca is taking part for the fifth time this year, maintaining its 1,000-square-meter booth space and once again becoming one of the largest exhibitors by area in the Medical Devices and Healthcare Products section.

Under the theme “For China, Driven by Innovation, Linking the World,” AstraZeneca will comprehensively showcase its fruitful achievements over three decades of deep roots in China. With innovation as its cornerstone, the company has continuously upgraded its investments and strategic layout in the country, steadily built bridges for international dialogue, and jointly promoted global health development.

Today, AstraZeneca’s “Cloud Exhibition Hall” opens for the first time, inviting those unable to attend in person to explore it online.

Exhibit Area 1: For China, Driving Innovation, Linking the Globe

AstraZeneca is a science-led global biopharmaceutical company headquartered in Cambridge, UK. Since its official entry into China in 1993, AstraZeneca has focused on therapeutic areas of urgent need for Chinese patients, including oncology, cardiovascular, renal, metabolic, respiratory, gastrointestinal, vaccines and antibodies, autoimmunity, and rare diseases, bringing nearly 40 innovative drugs to the Chinese market. Today, China has become AstraZeneca’s second-largest market globally. In this exhibition area, visitors will see key achievements demonstrating AstraZeneca’s deepened commitment to China, the construction of an innovation ecosystem, and the promotion of “Innovated in China” solutions to the world.

Exhibition Area 2: A Cooperation Ecosystem Rooted in China

In 2019, AstraZeneca announced its plan to establish regional headquarters in China. Currently, five regional headquarters in Beijing, Guangzhou, Wuxi, Hangzhou, and Chengdu have been completed, officially forming a strategic layout in China that features collaborative innovation and coordinated development with its China headquarters in Shanghai. This year, AstraZeneca has continued to increase its investment in China by adding a new regional headquarters in Qingdao and building a production and supply base for pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs). This facility will work in synergy with the global supply bases in Wuxi and Taizhou to provide high-quality medicines to both the Chinese and global markets.

In this exhibition area, various cities showcased their biopharmaceutical innovation hubs built around regional thematic specialties, including: [Beijing] Grassroots Smart Healthcare and International Development, [Guangzhou] Precision Diagnostics, [Wuxi] Full-Chain Coverage of the Life and Health Industry, [Hangzhou] Digital Healthcare, [Chengdu] Modernization of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, and [Qingdao] Diagnosis and Treatment of Rare Diseases, along with innovative achievements from partners in local innovation ecosystems.

Exhibit Area 3: Focusing on Scientific Leadership Across Nine Therapeutic Areas

This year, AstraZeneca made its debut with a booth showcasing nine therapeutic areas—including oncology, cardiovascular, renal, metabolism, respiratory, gastrointestinal, vaccines and antibodies, autoimmune diseases, and rare diseases—highlighting its scientific leadership in focusing on patient needs and continuously expanding the frontiers of science.

This exhibition zone will also feature, for the first time, four globally leading innovative drugs in the fields of rare diseases, COVID-19 neutralizing antibodies, and oncology, including: Soliris (eculizumab), the world’s first approved C5 complement inhibitor and AstraZeneca’s first innovative drug for rare diseases in China, which is being showcased at this year’s CIIE.®, Enhertu*, a uniquely designed HER2-targeting antibody-drug conjugate jointly developed and commercialized by AstraZeneca and Daiichi Sankyo; Evusheld*, a combination of COVID-19 neutralizing antibodies that helps provide protection for immunocompromised individuals; and Calquence*, the world’s first next-generation highly selective BTK inhibitor.

Here, we also showcase the comprehensive disease management and innovative solutions that AstraZeneca has co-developed with its partners across various therapeutic areas, as well as initiatives aimed at expanding access to high-quality medical resources in primary care settings through digitalization and grassroots strategies.
