With the improvement of socioeconomic levels and advancements in interventional technologies, tumor intervention—including therapeutic approaches such as ablation, embolization, and radioactive seed implantation—has gradually developed, steering cancer treatment toward minimally invasive procedures. Tumor ablation is the most rapidly advancing field within interventional oncology, achieving highly effective local treatment through localized radiofrequency ablation, microwave ablation, or cryoablation; however,Under the influence of tumor immune escape mechanisms, metastasis and recurrence still occur in some patients after local ablation therapy.。
Immunotherapy has emerged as one of the most cutting-edge areas of clinical research in recent years. As a critical component of comprehensive cancer treatment, it demonstrates certain therapeutic efficacy against tumor recurrence and metastasis. However,Due to the influence of the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment, bottlenecks in the targeting and adaptability of immunotherapy remain to be resolved.。
Integrating the technical advantages of minimally invasive ablation and immunotherapy to create a novel tumor treatment modality would usher in a transformative era in oncology. This approach can address numerous clinical bottlenecks, ultimately benefiting patients by tapping into a billion-dollar blue-ocean market for precision therapy of solid tumors, driven by unmet clinical needs.

Meijie Medical's First Product Based on Multimodal Ablation and Thermophysical Immunity Technology PlatformThe Multimodal Tumor Ablation Therapy System Successfully Entered the National Medical Products Administration’s “Innovative Medical Device” Special Review Process in 2020。
In 2021, the system entered the phase of multicenter clinical validation. Validated through a multicenter clinical study conducted by Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center, Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Changhai Hospital affiliated with Naval Medical University, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, and the Chinese PLA General Hospital, this innovative multimodal tumor ablation therapy system has provided an opportunity for leapfrog development in clinical minimally invasive ablation therapy, thanks to its unique technological advantages and clinical value.
Traditional thermal ablation techniques have historically suffered from non-visualized treatment zones, forcing physicians to estimate the ablation range based on experience alone. This limitation compromises safety when treating areas adjacent to critical structures such as the diaphragmatic dome and capsule. Furthermore, these procedures are associated with significant pain, necessitating general anesthesia and resulting in poor patient tolerance. Conventional cryoablation, on the other hand, faces challenges including the difficulty in predicting the effective treatment zone at -40°C, a high risk of local recurrence at the ablation margins, and an increased propensity for post-procedural hemorrhage.
Multimodal ablation overcomes the technical limitations of traditional thermal and cryoablation, offering visualized effective treatment ranges with conformal controllability. It enables safe and efficient treatment of lesions adjacent to critical structures such as the diaphragmatic dome and blood vessels, making ablation more precise and safer. While providing analgesia, multimodal ablation alters the physical properties of tumor tissue, allowing procedures to be performed under local anesthesia. This enhances patient tolerance and achieves highly effective local radical cure.
Multimodal ablation achieves precise thermal dose control through the rapid alternation of cryogenic freezing and radiofrequency heating, effectively disrupting tumor cells and microvasculature in situ. This process releases tumor-specific antigens and damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMPs), reshaping the tumor immune microenvironment during local treatment. Acting as an “autologous tumor vaccine,” it stimulates endogenous anti-tumor immune responses, thereby inhibiting tumor metastasis and recurrence. The underlying immune mechanisms have been validated in multiple animal tumor models.
Further clinical studies have demonstrated that multimodal ablation therapy yields superior progression-free survival compared with conventional ablation, achieving systemic benefits from local treatment and offering significant hope to patients.
As an interdisciplinary innovative technology, Meijie Medical’s multimodal thermophysical ablation immunotherapy for tumors has garnered widespread industry attention since its launch, with multimodal ablation therapy having achieved expert consensus. Meijie Medical, in collaboration with the Chinese Society of Biomedical Engineering and multiple top-tier Grade A tertiary hospitals, initiated the establishment of “Consortium for Innovative Translation of Multimodal Minimally Invasive Diagnosis and Treatment Technologies in Oncology”, dedicated to advancing the rapid clinical translation of multimodal diagnostic and therapeutic technologies for oncology.
At the Fourth Annual Conference of the Consortium this year, Meijie Medical presented its combined regimen of multimodal ablation and immunotherapy. The attending clinical experts gained a profound understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the new paradigm of multimodal tumor ablation therapy, expressed greater confidence in the clinical effects of multimodal ablation-induced anti-tumor immunity, and eagerly anticipated the early clinical application of multimodal tumor ablation systems to benefit patients.
In 2022, the National Health Commission’s updated Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Liver Cancer explicitly listed ablation therapy alongside surgical resection as first-line treatment options for early- to intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The guidelines also clearly stated that “combining ablation therapy with immunotherapy can produce synergistic anti-tumor effects.” The immune-stimulating effects of minimally invasive ablation have garnered widespread attention, reflecting years of dedicated efforts by the Meijie team in this field.
Meijie Medical’s multimodal thermal physical ablation immunotherapy technology for tumors is a platform technology that, by remodeling the tumor immune microenvironment, enables combination with various classes of drugs and therapies. This enhances the applicability and efficacy of related anti-tumor drugs and treatments, opening up new avenues for exploring endogenous anti-tumor immune activation mechanisms and advancing research into precise, personalized innovative cancer therapies.
Currently, Meijie Medical has attracted the attention of globally leading surgical robotics companies and prominent Chinese CAR-T cell therapy enterprises, aiming to foster in-depth collaboration in the fields of future integrated precision oncology diagnosis and treatment, as well as endogenous T-cell immunotherapy. The integration of multimodal ablation with surgical robotics represents a novel approach to achieving integrated precision minimally invasive diagnosis and therapy, enabling precise diagnosis alongside multimodal tumor treatment. Furthermore, combining multimodal ablation with CAR-T cell therapy holds promise for breaking down barriers in the application of CAR-T therapies for solid tumors, thereby ushering in a new era for CAR-T treatment of solid malignancies.
Meijie Medical’s multimodal thermal ablation combined with immunotherapy for tumors serves as a sharp sword, directly targeting malignant tumors to achieve precise curative treatment; it also acts as a raging fire, forging immunotherapy, cell therapy, and other modalities into a new, powerful weapon, significantly enhancing the efficacy of comprehensive cancer treatment. Moreover, cutting-edge technologies representing the future of healthcare—such as modern medical imaging, medical robotics, and biotherapeutics—have been incorporated into Meijie Medical’s blueprint for future development. Leveraging multimodal tumor ablation combined with thermophysical immunotherapy as its core platform, Meijie Medical will vertically integrate various innovative technologies to create a “1+X” new ecosystem for cancer treatment, featuring combination therapy of multimodal ablation and immune modulation.
