At the meeting, Director Chen Hui of the Life and Health Division of the Science and Technology Investment Promotion Center of Suzhou High-Tech Zone introduced the basicAn overview of the current situation, industrial development, and supportive policies was provided.
Suzhou New District is among the first batch of National High-Tech Industrial Development Zones in China, the only area in Jiangsu Province’s “one district, one industry” layout that receives key support for the medical device industry, and one of the two cores serving as landmarks for Suzhou’s biopharmaceutical industry. Leveraging the strategic locational advantages of the “One Circle, One Belt” initiative, it has established three major functional zones. Currently, the entire district has gathered nearly 50,000 domestic-funded enterprises and close to 2,000 foreign-funded enterprises.
Suzhou’s biomedical industry has surpassed the RMB 100 billion mark, with more than 3,000 enterprises and a total economic output of RMB 210 billion. Currently, Suzhou has explicitly designated biomedicine as its “No. 1 Industry” for focused development, establishing a regional industrial layout centered on “strengthening two core hubs and expanding multiple growth poles.” Suzhou New District is the only area in Jiangsu Province’s “One Zone, One Industry” strategic framework that receives key support for the development of the medical device industry. It also serves as one of the two core hubs in Suzhou’s biomedical sector, aiming to achieve an industrial scale exceeding RMB 80 billion for medical device and biomedical enterprises across the district by 2023.

Suzhou New District has gathered innovative medical device enterprises and industry leaders from both domestic and international markets. To date, it is home to renowned Chinese companies such as Yuwell Medical, Beikong Bio-Technology, Meikang Biology, Lepu Medical, and Hengrui Medicine; well-known foreign enterprises including Thermo Fisher Scientific, Leidal, KaVo Kerr (Germany), Boston Scientific, and Hill-Rom (USA); as well as over 900 highly innovative companies with significant market potential, such as Xinqing Medical and Nuoyi Maier. The product portfolio covers in vitro diagnostics, biomedical materials, medical imaging, and medical robotics. Many technological achievements are pioneers in China and lead the industry, with the cluster effect of the industrial ecosystem gradually becoming evident.

At the meeting, corporate representatives introduced their respective sectors and current development needs, and engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on topics such as product review and approval, talent recruitment, clinical resources, and how industrial funds can support enterprises.


At the conclusion of the meeting, Director Chen Hui stated that Suzhou High-Tech Zone would collaborate with industrial operation platforms, investment institutions, and other industry chain service providers to build an innovative ecosystem in the health and medical sector, thereby facilitating the rapid growth of healthcare innovation enterprises.
