VCBeat has learned that Aquiferre (Beijing Xushui Hulian Technology Co., Ltd.) secured an additional RMB 10 million in funding from the New Airport City Fund, just two months after closing its Series A round. The capital will further advance the company’s R&D in AIoT-enabled medical devices and digital applications, while accelerating the commercial deployment of these solutions among hospital clients. This is also the first project to receive investment support from the New Airport City Fund through the special fund for industrial support in the airport economic zone.

Aquiferre, established in 2016, specializes in the development and sales of AIoT applications for medical devices. Leveraging its independently developed digital twin technology, the company drives intelligent management transformation and digital adoption of medical equipment, utilizing real-world data to facilitate the implementation of smart hospital management.

It is reported that the Aquiferre project, a key initiative facilitated by a subsidiary fund of the New Airport City Fund and established in the Airport Economic Zone, aligns closely with the zone’s industrial development positioning in life sciences and digital technology. The New Airport City Fund’s decision to increase its investment during Series A financing reflects its confidence in Aquiferre’s corporate value and its belief in the significant potential of digitalization to enhance hospital operational efficiency and reduce operating costs.

Centered on Hospitals’ Actual Needs, Driven by Hard Technology

Traditional medical equipment management models rely on static data, leading to issues such as low management efficiency, passive information feedback, and the inability to resolve equipment problems in real time. These shortcomings make it difficult to meet the growing demands for high-quality development and refined management. Aquiferre leverages IoT and digitalization technologies to address the challenges of digitizing benefit management for medical equipment across entire hospitals.

Leveraging its three core AIoT technologies—data heterogeneity, edge computing, and digital twin—developed in-house, Aquiferre has launched a digital operation and management platform for medical equipment tailored to healthcare institutions, as well as a cloud-based digital operation and maintenance platform for medical equipment designed for after-sales service providers.Distinct from previous IoT technology pathways for medical devices, the company adopts an industrial internet architecture. This approach involves connecting medical devices via their network ports to intelligent gateways, structuring and aggregating the data through heterogeneous data integration into a data middle platform, and subsequently enabling application transformation. This solution offers two key advantages: precision and scalability.

According to a relevant person in charge at Aquiferre,The categories of devices supported by the company’s AIoT technology have expanded from radiology and ultrasound to life support, endoscopy, and small equipment., capable of meeting the needs for digitalized operation of all categories of medical equipment across the entire hospital in healthcare institutions.

At the application level, Aquiferre has expanded from equipment department use to multi-scenario applications for hospital directors, finance departments, IT departments, medical affairs departments, and various clinical support departments. Meanwhile, Aquiferre has introduced new multi-party secure computation algorithms into its edge computing framework, delivering enhanced data standardization services while ensuring robust information security.

Commercialization Progressing Smoothly; New Airport City Bullish on Its Development Potential

Notably, Aquiferre has also begun to show its promise in the commercialization sector.Aquiferre’s commercialization model primarily charges fees proportionally based on the number of connected medical devices, the value of assets, and the number of digital applications. Since the second half of 2020, the company’s products have accelerated their commercial deployment.

To date, the company has successfully delivered and implemented its smart IoT platform for medical equipment in partnership with 20 renowned hospitals in China, including Peking Union Medical College Hospital and West China Hospital of Sichuan University. The company has achieved annual revenues exceeding RMB 10 million, nearing break-even, with an annual customer repurchase rate of up to 30%.

Following the completion of its Series A financing, Aquiferre will prioritize the commercial implementation of its products, aiming to improve the conversion rate of trial contracts and the repurchase rate for subsequent phases. Meanwhile, the company will further expand its portfolio of department-level digital applications, shifting the focus of operational efficiency improvements in medical institutions from the management level down to the execution level.

AquiferreIt is believed that factors such as intensifying population aging, rising per capita disposable income, and individuals’ increasingly higher demands for health have not undergone significant changes. Consequently, demand in the healthcare industry remains robust, and improvements in supply-side efficiency will inevitably create sustained momentum for the industry’s development. Aquiferre will continue to focus on leveraging digital technologies to drive structural efficiency gains across the sector, centering on hospitals to achieve digital upgrading of the medical equipment industrial chain.

New Aviation City FundIt is believed that Aquiferre pioneered the application of industrial internet technology in the healthcare sector, providing critical infrastructure for hospital digitalization and earning continuous recognition from top-tier hospitals. The team boasts strong industry experience, learning agility, and execution capabilities. Through sustained technological and business model innovation, it continually launches new products and applications to help hospitals address core pain points during their management transformation, ensuring a clear and robust growth trajectory for the company.

In the future, New Airport City will continue to increase investment and support for projects that have already been established or are planned in the Airport Economic Zone. It will provide support not only in terms of funding, premises, and industrial resources but also leverage the dual policy advantages of Daxing District and the Free Trade Innovation Zone, helping enterprises achieve faster development in the Airport Economic Zone.

About the Airport Economic Zone

Beijing Daxing International Airport Economic Zone was established with the approval of the State Council. The core area covers approximately 150 square kilometers, of which the Beijing portion (the “Airport Economic Zone”) accounts for about 50 square kilometers. It is planned to host functions including the international life and health industry, international technological innovation, an international exhibition center, an international conference center, an international consumption hub, gateway business services, a comprehensive bonded zone, international schools, and international hospitals.

Drawing on the global development patterns of airport economies and aligning with regional economic development requirements and resource endowments, the Airport Economic Zone has planned a “1+2+2” airport industry development system, with life and health as the leading industry, aviation hubs and aviation service support as the two foundational industries, and next-generation information technology and intelligent equipment as complementary sectors.
