According to industry sources, Zai Lab recently announced an important personnel appointment to its internal staff:Wang Yizhe will join the company as Operating Partner, Global Chief Business Officer, and General Manager of Greater China., reporting directly to Dr. Samantha Du, Chairman of Zai Lab, and the appointment takes effect immediately.

Wang Yizhe earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Yale University in 1998, after which he joined the R&D department of BMS in Princeton, New Jersey, as a senior researcher. In 2001, he left BMS to pursue an MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. In 2003, Wang briefly joined Cubist Pharmaceuticals (the original developer of daptomycin, later acquired by Merck) as a senior director of business development; that same year, he joined GSK, where he was responsible for global commercial analysis of anti-infective products at their research center near Philadelphia.

Thereafter, Wang Yizhe embarked on a 15-year career at GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), spanning multiple departments and roles in both the UK and the US. In 2013, several senior executives at GSK China were reassigned, and in March 2014, Wang Yizhe was transferred to China, where he successively served as Head of GSK China's Marketing Department, Sales Head of the Respiratory Products Division, and General Head of the Respiratory Products Division.

On April 13, 2018, Wang Yizhe left GSK and joined Eli Lilly on April 16 of the same month as the head of Eli Lilly China's Oncology and Biomedicines Division. On April 1, 2020, news broke that Wang Yizhe, then Senior Vice President of Eli Lilly China and head of the Biomedicines and Oncology Division, was transferred to the U.S. headquarters to serve as the Global Development Lead for the anti-inflammatory drug Mirikizumab, reporting to Lotus Mallbris, Vice President of Global Immunology Product Development at Eli Lilly.

On May 17, 2021, Wang Yizhe left Eli Lilly and joined the startup pharmaceutical company LianBio as Chief Executive Officer. On December 20, 2023, LianBio announced that Wang Yizhe had stepped down to pursue other opportunities. On February 13, 2024, LianBio announced that the Board of Directors had completed a comprehensive strategic review and decided to gradually shut down operations, sell remaining pipeline assets, and delist from Nasdaq.

After leaving LianBio, Wang Yizhe served as the CEO of Tavotek Biotherapeutics. This is an innovative biotechnology company with operations in both China and the United States, primarily focusing on areas such as oncology, autoimmune diseases, and inflammatory conditions. The company's business emphasizes early-stage innovative biopharmaceutical R&D and platform technology-driven approaches. In September 2025, Wang Yizhe stepped down from his position at Tavotek Biotherapeutics and subsequently began working as an advisor and investor.

According to Dr. Du Ying of Zai Lab,Before officially joining Zai Lab, Wang Yizhe had already been deeply involved in the company's affairs for several months in an advisory role., and has a deep understanding of Zai Lab's business layout and development plan.

According to the latest financial report of Zai Lab,Company Performance in 2025 Remains Strong: Total Annual Revenue Reaches $460 Million, a Year-on-Year Increase of 15.3%; Net loss attributable to shareholders narrowed by 31.7% year-over-year, commercial revenue continued to grow, and financial condition kept improving.

At this pivotal moment of development, the official joining of Wang Yizhe is expected to inject new momentum into Zai Lab's global strategy and Greater China operations.
