FUJIFILM China's 'Hundred Cities, Ten Thousand Miles' Initiative: Empowering Grassroots Healthcare through Endoscopy

Feb 08, 2023 14:08 CST Updated 14:08

Fuji Endoscopy’s “Hundred Cities, Ten Thousand Miles” initiative was launched in 2020 with the aim of building a multidisciplinary thematic exchange platform, empowering grassroots healthcare providers, establishing a bridge for academic exchange in digestive endoscopy, and enhancing the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of digestive endoscopy in primary-care hospitals. The program features diverse formats, including themed lectures and hands-on preceptorship. Over the course of three years, covering “more than a hundred cities and tens of thousands of miles,” the initiative has gradually gained recognition and positive feedback nationwide.

As time marches on, the years renew with vigor. 2022 marked the third year of the global pandemic onslaught, and also a year in which the Endoscopy Product Systems Division of FUJIFILM (China) Investment Co., Ltd. continuously embraced challenges, advancing tirelessly and achieving sustained success.

Over 100 Cities

Malignant tumors have long been a major disease seriously affecting residents’ health. Understanding the incidence and mortality of cancer is the foundation and prerequisite for carrying out cancer prevention and control work. In response to national healthcare reform requirements, to improve medical service levels and the capacity for early cancer diagnosis and treatment via digestive endoscopy in various regions—especially in primary care hospitals—and to drive the development of regional gastroenterology disciplines, thereby achieving the goals outlined in the “Healthy China 2030” Planning Outline, the “Hundred Cities, Ten Thousand Miles” project has grown steadily from its nascent stage over the past three years through continuous improvement, localized planning and output, and the integration and innovation of concepts.

Having successfully executed the plan from 0 to 1, the Fujifilm (China) Endoscopy Team has remained persistent and courageous in taking on challenges as it advances from 1 to 100, or even 1,000. At the beginning of 2022, the team took its first step, with the inaugural stop located in Shangrao City, Jiangxi Province.

From Facing Challenges to Proactively Creating Value: The “100 Cities, 10,000 Li Journey” project has accompanied physicians through all four seasons, spanning hundreds of cities and thousands of miles, helping hospitals across the country improve diagnosis and treatment quality, empowering grassroots healthcare, and continuously creating new value.

Walk Ten Thousand Miles

As the New Year’s bells rang in 2023, the “Hundred Cities, Ten Thousand Miles” initiative for 2022 came to a successful conclusion. Throughout the year, a total of 286 events were held for grassroots hospitals, including 192 focused on early diagnosis and treatment, 41 on ultrasound diagnostics, 16 on respiratory diagnosis and treatment, and 37 on other themes such as small bowel diseases.

During this period, more than 300 expert physicians engaged in online interactions or visited grassroots facilities, sparing no effort regardless of the season, to deliver advanced diagnostic and treatment concepts as well as technical guidance to lower-tier hospitals. The number of participants exceeded 2,000.

Unceasing Progress, A Journey of Ten Thousand Miles. In 2022, the “Hundred Cities, Ten Thousand Miles” initiative traveled from south to north, covering 28 provinces and more than 100 cities across China. While implementing the Healthy China development strategy and persistently promoting the enhancement of digestive endoscopy capabilities as well as the popularization of early diagnosis and early treatment concepts, the project also actively assisted grassroots hospitals in building disciplinary platforms in areas such as early-stage cancer, ultrasound, and respiratory medicine. This effort has received consistent support and participation from numerous doctors and experts throughout China.

United in Building Dreams, Striving for Excellence in Endoscopy

Winter’s chill will eventually fade, and the promise of spring mountains lies ahead. In the new year, we will continue our journey across hundreds of cities and thousands of miles, joining hands with more medical experts to contribute our efforts to primary healthcare in fields such as early cancer detection, ultrasound, and respiratory care. This reflects Fujifilm’s corporate responsibility, as a medical enterprise deeply rooted in the Chinese market, to advance the cause of public health in China.
