The establishment and operation of this platform mark a milestone in the development of the synthetic biology manufacturing industry in the Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone, injecting strong momentum into the high-quality growth of the regional biomanufacturing sector. Fang Zhiwei, Secretary of the District Party Working Committee, attended the ceremony and delivered remarks. Zou Jimao, Vice Chairman of the Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, presided over the ceremony. District leaders present at the time, heads of relevant municipal departments, expert teams from Central South University, and enterprise representatives also attended the event.
Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone Synthetic Biology Manufacturing Pilot Base isThe Largest Pilot-Scale Base for Bio-Manufacturing in Central China. Design and construction commenced in 2025,Two 5-ton fermentation lines, two 20-ton fermentation lines, and one post-processing line with a daily capacity of 20 tons have been established., and recently, a new 1-ton food-grade pilot line and a 5-ton non-GMP standard pilot line will also be constructed.Focusing on four major sectors: biomedical and cosmetic ingredients, bio-chemicals, bio-agriculture and food, and new biomaterials.。
Base RelianceAcademician Team on Microbial Manufacturing, Central South UniversityOperations and maintenance: A team of experts centered around two academicians has been established, capable of efficiently resolving various technical challenges in pilot-scale trials.More than 10 enterprises have signed pilot-scale trial orders。
In his address, Fang Zhiwei pointed out that the synthetic biology manufacturing industry is the primary focus for Changde Economic and Technological Development Zone to accelerate industrial transformation and concentrate efforts on cultivating emerging industries. The pilot-scale platform put into operation this time has hardware supporting facilities ranking among the top in the province, bridging the "last mile" from technological innovation to large-scale production. The official launch of the platform is a landmark achievement of tripartite collaboration among government, enterprises, and universities, as well as deep integration of "industry-academia-research-application." It will undoubtedly add a new engine and inject fresh momentum into the development of the synthetic biology industry in the development zone and even in Changde City. It is hoped that with the launch of the platform as an opportunity, cooperation among industry, academia, and research will be continuously deepened, the industrial ecosystem improved, high-quality resources gathered, and efforts made to build a highly competitive new hub for the synthetic biology manufacturing industry in central China.
