Brain health issues such as depression, insomnia, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, and stroke have not only become societal “pain points” and “itch points,” but are also increasingly turning into societal “hot topics.” According to quantitative assessments by the World Health Organization, brain disorders account for 28% of the global disease burden, surpassing that of cardiovascular diseases or cancer. Before the etiologies of major brain disorders are fully elucidated, early diagnosis and early intervention will remain the most effective medical approaches for managing these conditions.
In 2022, the status of brain science within China’s healthcare sector was further elevated. In July, China officially launched the “Brain Health Initiative.” This initiative has clear objectives: by 2025, it aims to systematically advance brain health screening, examinations, and monitoring for key populations; vigorously promote the development of foundational knowledge in the discipline of brain health; and conduct research and validation on brain health screening methods, biomarkers, digital therapeutics, and preventive and therapeutic drugs. The year prior, the “China Brain Project” was formally initiated, accelerating brain science research oriented toward unraveling the secrets of the brain and conquering brain diseases, as well as brain-inspired research focused on establishing and developing artificial intelligence technologies.
Consequently, brain science and its related technologies—such as brain monitoring, neuromodulation, and brain-inspired artificial intelligence—have become prominent frontiers in global scientific and technological advancement. Driven by societal needs, industrial development, and advances in scientific research, China is likewise entering an era of rapid growth in brain science and brain health.
To delve deeply into the practical applications and future development of the brain science industry, and to share and exchange the latest frontier information and technologies, the 7th Future Healthcare 100 Conference, in collaboration with China Renaissance Holdings, is hostingForum on Development Trends in the Brain Science Industry, comprehensively discussing the development trends in the brain science industry, investment hotspots and directions, and industrialization pathways across multiple sub-sectors.
I.Forum Highlights:
(1)Brainstorming: With Hype and Technology, Where Is the Future of Production and Investment Headed?
Brain science has entered a period of explosive growth in investment and industrial output. Under this trend, an entirely new trillion-dollar industry based on brain science is rapidly taking shape. Amidst this significant opportunity, the key to ensuring the stable development of the future industrial chain lies in clarifying the logic of industrial development and exploring, at an early stage, a path for industrial transformation that extends from inception to completion. To this end, the forum has specially invited research experts and leading institutions in the field of brain science to engage in discussions and share insights on topics such as technological research and investment strategies.
(II)Brainstorming: The Organic Integration of Multidisciplinary Approaches and Disruptive Innovation in Brain Science Healthcare
Driven by the convergence of scientific advancement, technological innovation, demand-side pull, and international competition, the gateway to a “trillion-dollar market” centered on the brain and intelligence industry—characterized by brain science, brain technology, brain disorders, brain-inspired intelligence, brain health, and neurological rehabilitation—is gradually opening. How the industry can closely integrate with technology and interdisciplinary fields to maximize its potential is a fundamental challenge that innovators must address. The forum will also invite numerous stakeholders in brain science to share practical developments and disruptive technological innovations in areas such as brain-computer interfaces, neuromodulation, and cognitive disorders.
(3)Winning with Brainpower: Technological Innovation or Business Innovation? How Can Industrial Practice Find the “Standard Answer”?
As a key driver of industrial development, capital institutions have shown unprecedented enthusiasm for brain science in recent years, with the field gradually emerging as one of the most lucrative sectors within the specialized healthcare industry. Future industrial layouts will rely even more heavily on teams possessing capabilities for source innovation. Venture capital firms must also help enhance the potential application value of their target investment companies. The journey from source innovation to practical industrial development—a path without any “standard answer” yet serving as the de facto “standard answer”—is precisely the core issue this forum aims to address through dialogue.
