Regenerative Medicine Innovation Development Forum: Unlocking the Next Frontier of the 'Regenerative Era' Industry

Mar 27, 2023 13:00 CST Updated 13:00

Medicine emerged to combat disease. Even in today’s era of advanced medical science, disease remains a major factor affecting human survival and development. Currently, scientists are continuously conducting research and exploration to discover the “ultimate weapon” against disease. Regenerative medicine represents one important avenue in this endeavor.

According to FDA statistics, approximately 20% of human tissues currently have commercially available regenerative medicine products. Additionally, regenerative medicine products involving cells and scaffolds for 70% of human organ types have entered Phase II or later stages of clinical trials. It is projected that over the next decade, commercially viable products will successively emerge for more than half of human tissues and single organs, such as the kidneys, blood vessels, and pancreas.

In China, research in tissue regeneration and related fields has been gaining momentum in recent years, with many universities, hospitals, research institutions, and enterprises already entering this domain. However, it is undeniable that the development of regenerative medicine in China remains in its very early stages. While products such as bone repair materials, aesthetic regenerative therapies, and dental restorations have achieved commercialization, high-barrier technologies like organ regeneration are still confined to the research phase. The future advancement of regenerative medicine in China will depend on addressing core issues, including policy regulation, capital investment, product development, and coordination across the upstream and downstream sectors.

To effectively drive the innovative development of China's regenerative medicine industry, the 7th Future Healthcare Top 100 Conference is hosted by VCBeat and supported by Huiding Capital.Forum on Innovative Development in Regenerative MedicineInviting clinical experts, investment institutions, and leading enterprises to comprehensively discuss key issues in the field of regenerative medicine—such as policies, innovation, products, and development pain points—from their respective perspectives.

I.Forum Highlights:

(I)Technological Revolution: New Markets, New Possibilities—The Path of Technological Advancement in Regenerative Medicine

The regenerative medicine market is addressing previously unmet medical needs by creating a new market rather than replacing the market for traditional therapies. Consequently, regenerative medicine faces an untapped incremental market, which serves as a powerful driver attracting continuous participation from numerous investment institutions. However, to some extent, the high barriers to entry in the industry are rising, inevitably eliminating a number of companies and further prompting remaining players to pursue technological iteration and product innovation. To this end, the forum has specially invited benchmark enterprises with technical expertise in the field of regenerative medicine, as well as leading technical experts, to engage in dialogue on the path toward technological advancement.

(2)Prospect Exploration: The Next “New Door” for Industrial Innovation and Development in Regenerative Medicine

As global aging continues to intensify, traditional therapeutic models struggle to address numerous challenges such as the repair and regeneration of tissue and organ defects. Regenerative medicine holds significant strategic importance by creating functional living cells, tissues, or organs to repair or replace those damaged by aging, disease, or injury. It represents a major direction that has long been encouraged by national policies and closely monitored by leading institutions worldwide.Equally certain is that the field of regenerative medicine still holds immense untapped potential. Where lies the next “new door” for industrial innovation and development, and how can it be opened? These are the future challenges that the industry must collectively address.
