Recently, the National Key R&D Program’s Special Project on Diagnostic and Therapeutic Equipment and Biomedical Materials—“Development of an Intelligent Dual-Engine Dynamic Hybrid Energy Surgical System”—was officially launched, with Professor Li Bin from Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital serving as the project leader and Shanghai Yichao Medical Device Co., Ltd. as the lead organization.

Enhancing clinical value to achieve social and economic benefits is a fundamental requirement for innovative products. Achieving “straight-track overtaking” in the medical device industry through original Chinese innovation is also the goal and mission of Yichao Medical.
In terms of clinical efficacy, this product enhances hemostatic performance while increasing cutting speed, ensuring that thermal injury is not increased, thereby achieving comprehensive improvements in cutting, hemostasis, and thermal injury control. Regarding clinical application, the product’s integrated design covers nearly all clinical cutting and hemostasis scenarios, significantly reducing the consumption of main units and disposables. In terms of surgical safety, as the product integrates the functions of multiple therapeutic devices, it eliminates the need for frequent switching of disposables during surgery, improving procedural flow, minimizing risks associated with device changes, and enhancing overall surgical safety. Furthermore, its full-scenario coverage enables more effective management of various emergencies, thereby improving rescue capabilities.

Yichao Medical has collected nearly 170,000 valid and pending physician patents through systematic retrieval. These patents are indexed across multiple dimensions—including regulatory classification, clinical pain points, application departments, disease types, and lesion locations—to analyze technological development trends and the distribution of innovative R&D in various subfields of medical devices. This approach facilitates the identification of clinical pain points, emerging innovation hotspots, and technological trends within relevant fields. Based on the analytical results of physician patents, a joint innovation working group comprising clinical engineers, R&D engineers, and clinicians was established to curate innovative products and leverage patent micro-navigation to drive proactive development of innovative technical solutions.

The experts fully affirmed the research value of this project and provided pertinent recommendations on how to solidly advance its implementation. They expressed the hope that the project’s undertaking entity would conduct in-depth research into landmark achievements, product reliability verification, and confirmation of clinical application scenarios; diligently carry out project management, clinical surveys, and metric evaluation; and, while meeting the technical assessment indicators specified in the project guidelines, achieve higher product performance metrics. Ultimately, the goal is to realize industrialization of the project, thereby achieving genuine Chinese originality and enabling China’s medical device industry to “overtake on a straight track.”

Its first fully independently developed product, an ultrasonic surgical device for cutting and hemostasis in 5mm blood vessels, obtained the Class III medical device registration certificate in January 2022. This product has been licensed by internationally renowned companies and numerous domestic surgical robot manufacturers, thereby accelerating the substitution of imported products with domestically produced alternatives in this category.
