Developer of Artificial Intelligence Medical Imaging Diagnosis System

Recently, the “Construction and Application Project of a Medical AI Capability Generation Service Platform for High-Quality Clinical Research,” jointly submitted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (Southwest Hospital) and DeepWise, was honored as a Typical Case of Emerging Technology Innovation and Application in Hospitals in 2023 after rigorous selection. The project innovatively proposes an open medical AI capability and application service model, enabling physicians to build and train AI algorithms based on multimodal text and imaging data without requiring programming skills. By overcoming technical and engineering barriers to the application of AI in clinical research, the project helps improve the efficiency and output of clinical research processes, playing a positive and significant role in supporting clinical research and diagnosis. Meanwhile, the hospital’s Big Data Center leverages the platform to assist physicians throughout the entire workflow with in-depth data mining, post-structured data processing, and auxiliary statistical analysis, further strengthening the Big Data Center’s core capabilities in hospital-wide data services.

The 2023 China Hospital Information Network Conference and the Exhibition of Medical Information Technology and Products from China and Abroad (2023 CHIMA) was grandly held in Fuzhou. Government leaders, experts, scholars, and industry pioneers gathered to exchange insights on hot topics such as hospital informatization planning, information and data governance, management of business requirements for hospital informatization, integration and restructuring of hospital information systems, and the impact of new technologies on hospital informatization. This collision of ideas has driven innovation in medical informatics.

The Information Professional Committee of the Chinese Hospital Association announced the “Typical Cases of Innovative Application of Emerging Technologies in Hospitals in 2023” at this conference and held an award ceremony on site. A total of 221 cases from across China, covering technological fields such as Internet Plus, medical artificial intelligence, healthcare cloud, big data, and the Internet of Things, and spanning areas including telemedicine, patient services, clinical applications, internet hospitals, medical research, and hospital management, were submitted for evaluation. After blind peer review by industry experts and final adjudication, 24 outstanding cases were ultimately selected.

The “Construction and Application Project of a Medical AI Capability Generation Service Platform for High-Quality Clinical Research,” jointly submitted by the First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (Southwest Hospital) and DeepWise, focuses on clinical research and diagnosis/treatment scenarios, serving as an exemplary model of industry-academia-research collaborative innovation. Addressing the complex scenarios inherent in clinical research and applications, the project streamlines, granularizes, and engineers key technologies across data processing, model training, and analytical decision-making. This effort establishes a technical system and platform for medical AI capability generation and application services, which is made accessible to clinicians and researchers. By empowering them with independent capabilities in data preparation, model building and training, knowledge construction, and analytical decision-making, the platform meets their autonomous and personalized needs for clinical research and applications, thereby enhancing the overall level of clinical scientific research.

The First Affiliated Hospital of Army Medical University (Southwest Hospital) and DeepWise have developed a medical AI capability generation and application service platform centered on a dual-AI engine for “imaging + text.” The platform focuses on three key technologies: multidimensional comprehensive analysis and cross-modal retrieval/matching of text and imaging data, automated annotation of medical imaging data, and automated construction with adaptive hyperparameter tuning of medical research models. By establishing a streamlined, autonomous service model, the platform addresses critical technical challenges across the entire chain of “data preparation–knowledge construction–model training–statistical analysis,” ultimately achieving productization and clinical application.

The Medical AI Capability Generation and Application Service Platform has completed the governance of free-text data from patients across previous years, providing hospital-wide data search and clinical research services. It has established integrated image-text databases for two major diseases—breast cancer and liver cancer—processed large volumes of sequential imaging data, and provided nearly 30 imaging models to facilitate multimodal data research.

Currently, the construction of big data centers in China is flourishing, with diverse initiatives emerging across the sector. At their core, these efforts aim to deeply mine existing data assets and provide operational support for scientific research, education, clinical practice, and hospital management. A key challenge facing leading hospitals is how to maximize the value of big data centers and enhance data-driven decision support for various stakeholders, including physicians and hospital administrators. Leveraging its platform, tools, and DeepWise’s comprehensive services, the Southwest Big Data Center assists physicians in data integration, governance, post-structuring, and auxiliary statistical analysis, thereby further strengthening the data-centric service capabilities of big data centers.

DeepWise’s unique management capabilities, powered by its dual AI engines for intelligent imaging and medical big data, transform hospitals’ multidimensional data into valuable data assets. This better supports clinical workflows, scientific research, departmental development, and even the overall operational efficiency of hospitals. In addition to its award-winning AI capability generation service platform, DeepWise’s other flagship solution—the Disease-Specific Data Platform—has established in-depth collaborations with numerous top-tier medical institutions in China, including West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Zhongda Hospital Southeast University, and Fudan University Shanghai Cancer Center. Together, they have co-built multimodal disease-specific databases covering various malignant diseases such as lung cancer, breast cancer, and liver cancer. These efforts provide physicians with comprehensive, full-cycle solutions for disease exploration and management, spanning screening, diagnosis, assessment, and research, thereby enhancing diagnostic accuracy and strengthening AI-driven technological support for real-world studies. Previously, the Zhejiang Provincial Cancer Screening Information Platform, jointly established by DeepWise, the Zhejiang Provincial Office for Cancer Prevention and Control, and the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, received accolades such as the “2022 Healthy China Innovative Practice Case” award from People’s Daily Online and the “Best Application in Zhejiang’s Digital Reform.”

Driving technological innovation with data, and leveraging such innovations to significantly elevate clinical diagnosis and treatment standards. By establishing a “diagnosis–data–research” workflow, DeepWise has created an innovative closed-loop model that transforms data into tangible outcomes and practical applications. Committed to in-depth collaboration and integrated innovation with healthcare institutions at all levels, DeepWise employs artificial intelligence to enhance physicians’ capabilities, accelerate the translation of scientific research achievements, promote multidisciplinary team development, and support hospitals in achieving high-quality, smart healthcare advancement.
