Xiangpeng Bio Achieves Comprehensive Anti-Aging Strategy with Full-Spectrum Product Portfolio Across Cosmetic, Medical Device, Food, and Pharmaceutical Categories

Jun 07, 2023 08:00 CST Updated 08:00

It is often said that time is irreversible.

From visible fine lines at the corners of the eyes, skin laxity, and hair graying, to invisible bone mass loss, collagen depletion, and DNA methylation, the human body gradually ages with the passage of time.

With the advancement of science and technology, research on “human aging” has begun to emerge. The scientific rigor and technical barriers associated with anti-aging interventions—such as collagen, hyaluronic acid, tea polyphenols, coenzyme I, and mesenchymal stem cells—are continuously increasing. “Scientific anti-aging” has become a shared pursuit in both scientific research and the market.

Xiangpeng (Beijing) Biotechnology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “Xiangpeng Bio”), founded by Dr. He Peng, who holds a Ph.D. in Basic Medicine from Peking University, was established in 2022. The company focuses on the field of biotechnological anti-aging. By leveraging advanced biotechnologies and robust medical health resources, and driven by the dual engines of top-tier medicine and biological sciences, Xiangpeng Bio has developed comprehensive anti-aging solutions that address both internal and external aspects for holistic rejuvenation.

Exogenous Anti-Aging: Supramolecular Hyaluronic Acid + Humanized Collagen

Leveraging its in-depth research and comprehensive understanding of “scientific anti-aging,” Xiangpeng Bio has built a technological platform from both endogenous and exogenous perspectives.

On one hand, Xiangpeng Bio has successfully established a “Supramolecular Technology Platform” based on Nobel Prize-winning technology, and developed a series of products including non-invasive transdermal supramolecular hyaluronic acid and collagen with molecular weights in the hundreds of thousands, laying the technical foundation for “exogenous anti-aging” products.

The “Exogenous Anti-Aging” series primarily targets skin aging, with product development centered on hyaluronic acid and collagen—two key substances that maintain skin hydration and elasticity. As a natural moisturizing factor, hyaluronic acid helps keep the skin hydrated, radiant, and elastic only when present within the skin. However, the stratum corneum of human skin can only absorb molecules of 500 Daltons or smaller. Due to their large molecular size (80,000–600,000 Daltons), current hyaluronic acid skincare products can only provide temporary hydrating and smoothing effects on the skin surface.

Therefore, hyaluronic acid products currently on the market can only meet the moisturizing needs of users under the age of 25 (as hyaluronic acid in the human dermis begins to decline around this age). As aging progresses, the loss of dermal hyaluronic acid accelerates, and mere transient hydration of the stratum corneum is no longer sufficient for individuals aged 30 and above. What people need is “supramolecular hyaluronic acid,” which can truly penetrate into the dermis.

Xiangpeng Bio, based on the "supramolecular technology" that has won the Nobel Prize twice,Developed the world's first supramolecular hyaluronic acid approved for market launch by the NMPA: Qinghuazhi®(Filing No.: Liao G Zhuang Wang Bei Zi 2023000079)This product is a stable, ordered mixture composed of multiple components linked by hydrogen bonds. It can increase the transdermal molecular weight of hyaluronic acid by 200-fold without causing skin damage, thereby enabling non-invasive transdermal delivery of hyaluronic acid with a molecular weight of 100,000 Da. According to the human efficacy test report for Qinghuazhi® cosmetics, the product has achieved milestone improvements in both penetration efficiency and residence time. Its moisturizing effect is twice that of ordinary hyaluronic acid products, and continuous use yields an incremental enhancement of the moisturizing efficacy index.

According to Frost & Sullivan’s data, the overall market size of hyaluronic acid cosmetics in China is projected to reach $130.6 billion by 2026. This means that Qinghuazhi® not only has the opportunity to capture a share of the existing hyaluronic acid cosmetics market but also the potential to break through market boundaries by expanding its target age demographics, thereby unlocking greater commercial conversion possibilities.

Collagen, which is as important as hyaluronic acid, serves as the vital structural scaffold of human skin tissue and accounts for 30% of the total protein content in the human body. According to Frost & Sullivan data, China’s recombinant collagen market is expected to surpass that of animal-derived collagen in 2024, with its market size projected to reach $108.3 billion by 2027.

Leveraging advanced fermentation technology, Xiangpeng Biotech’s recombinant humanized type III collagen has obtained Class II medical device certification, owing to its superior performance in purity, safety, water solubility, and bioactivity.

Experimental studies have confirmed that this product achieves a transdermal absorption rate of 80%–90% and strengthens the stratum corneum. After 14 consecutive days of use, it effectively reduces wrinkles and refines pores. Furthermore, experimental data indicate that its crude repair activity is approximately six times that of the control group, while its growth-promoting activity is about 200 times higher, demonstrating highly efficient cellular repair capabilities. Consequently, it is approved for use in conditions such as sunburn, skin sensitivity, acne marks, scars, and post-intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy recovery.

Endogenous Anti-Aging: Coenzyme I + Cellular Anti-Aging

On the other hand, the company has collaborated with leading research institutes, universities, and hospitals both domestically and internationally to successfully establish an endogenous anti-aging technology platform, developing “endogenous anti-aging” products related to Coenzyme I, stem cells, exosomes, and immune cells.

"Endogenous Anti-Aging" consists of two parts: the Enaidi Cellular Energy Supplementation Kit and endogenous cellular anti-aging (immune cells, stem cells, and exosomes).

The Enaidi Cellular Energy Replenishment Set is a functional food (health and nutritional supplement) kit, composed of the energy substance coenzyme I (NAD+) supplement and other vital life factors.Coenzyme I, fully known as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD), is present in every cell of the human body and participates in nearly all physiological processes. Specifically, Coenzyme I is involved in vital activities such as digestion and absorption, cellular energy supply, DNA damage repair, and free radical scavenging, making it one of the core components of human energy metabolism.

Coenzyme I Levels Decline with Age (Image source: Xiangpeng Biotech)

However, coenzyme I decreases with age.(Camacho-Pereira et al., Cell Metabolism, 2016,  23(6): 1127–1139.),The human body typically begins to require additional supplementation of coenzyme I at age 25 (inclusive); otherwise, the incidence of diseases and cancer will start to increase significantly after age 37.From birth to age 70, the human body's coenzyme I (NAD+) levels decline from 8.54 nanograms per milligram of protein to 1.08 nanograms per milligram of protein, representing an overall reduction of 88%.

Current research indicates that elevating intracellular levels of coenzyme I (NAD+) can mitigate the onset and associated symptoms of numerous diseases. Existing studies have demonstrated that increasing NAD+ levels is beneficial in the treatment of liver cancer (Cancer Cell 2014, 26, 826), diabetes (Scientific Reports 2016, 6, 26933), AIDS (Clinical Infectious Diseases 2003, 36, 453), hepatitis B (Arch Virol. 2015, 2712), amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis and Frontotemporal Degeneration, 2019:0: 1), obesity (Am. J. Clin. Nutr. 2018, 108, 343), Parkinson’s disease (Cell Reports 2018, 23, 2976), heart failure (Circulation 2018, 137, 2256), metabolic disorders (J. Biomedical Science 2019, 26, 34), aging (GeroScience 2019, 41, 419), Alzheimer’s disease (PNAS 2018, E1876), and hypertension (Nature Communications 2018, 9, 1286). Furthermore, maternal mice supplemented with NAD+ precursors exhibited more rapid weight loss, increased milk production, and improved milk quality—characterized by higher levels of protein factors promoting brain development—compared to those not receiving nicotinamide riboside (NR) supplementation. Their offspring were larger and displayed better metabolic health, thereby achieving simultaneous benefits for both mother and infant (http://wap.sciencenet.cn/blog-39731-1158701.html). Additionally, efficacy has been observed in improving sexual function (J Sex Med. 2011, 8, 2883) and enhancing fertility (https://doi.org/10.1016/j.celrep.2020.01.058).

Therefore, supplemental Coenzyme I is an effective approach to anti-aging and health management. According to statistics from CITIC Securities, driven by the dual forces of economic growth and population aging, China’s market for Coenzyme I health supplements is projected to reach hundreds of billions of yuan in the future. Currently, however, the global Coenzyme I market is predominantly monopolized by Japan’s Shinko Chemical, the U.S.-based Herbalmax, and Hong Kong-based GeneHarbor. Consequently, Xiangpeng Biology is well-positioned to participate in both the “domestic substitution” segment and the broader global commercial market.

Existing experiments have confirmed that Xiangpeng Bio's Enaidi Energy Supplement Kit can significantly increase intracellular Coenzyme I levels by more than 80%, and it has been registered with a national patent.Moving forward, Xiangpeng Biotechnology will conduct relevant clinical trials across different indications to develop more precise dietary guidance. Once launched, the product will become a health supplement accessible to the general public, with the potential to reduce the disease burden on individuals and families, thereby improving both physical health and quality of life.

At the cellular level, immune cells also undergo senescence with advancing age, which in turn contributes to the aging of solid organs and an increased risk of disease. The journal *Cells* explicitly states in a review that young immune cells hold promise for delaying the aging process and treating age-related diseases.

Xiangpeng Bio combines “ex vivo isolation and expansion technology for autologous immune cells” with “isolation and expansion technology for umbilical cord blood immune cells,” and is currently accumulating foundational research on the applications of mesenchymal stem cells and exosomes. The research primarily focuses on tissue repair, such as enhancing lung function, nerve regeneration, and bone restoration, to meet the cellular anti-aging needs of diverse populations.

Overall, Xiangpeng Bio has implemented a holistic anti-aging strategy of “internal and external rejuvenation” by leveraging four scientific anti-aging pathways—supramolecular hyaluronic acid, recombinant humanized type III collagen, coenzyme I functional foods, and cellular anti-aging—and structuring its product portfolio across the four dimensions of cosmetics, medical devices, food, and pharmaceuticals.
