VCBeat has learned that Taizhou Tongyi Medical Devices Co., Ltd., a company dedicated to building a leading brand in respiratory detection equipment, recently announced the completion of its Pre-A financing round, raising tens of millions of yuan. The round was led by Shanghai Lanwan Science and Technology Innovation Group, with continued support from existing shareholder Century Changhe Technology Group. The proceeds will be used to strengthen R&D capabilities and advance the channel development of the company’s overseas business division.

With the advent of the post-pandemic era, respiratory function testing has become increasingly critical. Tongyi Medical has developed a comprehensive portfolio of products and services related to respiratory diagnostics, along with a range of supportive and therapeutic devices. As it continues to expand its product pipeline, Tongyi Medical has initially established an ecosystem of respiratory medical devices covering both diagnosis and treatment. With further advancements in R&D, the company is also working to build a respiratory ethnographic data platform tailored to the Chinese population from the ground up, thereby better serving patients.

Over the past seven years, Tongyi Medical has gradually built multiple product pipelines covering both hardware and software, initially establishing an ecosystem for respiratory medical devices.

Tongyi Medical: Selected Hardware Products

Tongyi Medical has divided its products into three pipelines.

One category comprises hardware products, including diagnostic devices such as FeNO analyzers and diffusing capacity lung function testers, as well as adjunctive therapeutic devices like NRU units. Since initiating its strategic layout in “respiratory” medical devices in 2015, Tongyi Medical has initially established an integrated ecosystem spanning respiratory diagnosis to treatment.

One category is consumable products. Previously, Tongyi Medical’s products were exported to more than 30 countries worldwide, with its consumables primarily targeting overseas markets. Now, with a heightened focus on the domestic market, the company plans to expand the deployment of its corresponding consumable products on a broader scale, alongside increasing the installation of its related terminal equipment in more hospitals.

One category comprises software products. Within this category, functional expansions for hardware devices are included; these solutions not only integrate with hospital HIS systems to enable real-time monitoring of equipment usage but also connect certain devices to cloud-based back-end systems and open secondary data ports, thereby providing robust data support for hospital research. An example is the respiratory ethnicity data platform currently being developed by Tongyi Medical.

To enhance its research and development (R&D) capabilities, Tongyi Medical established the “Sino-German Joint Respiratory Products Research Center” with Germany’s Air Controls at the end of last year. AC Aircontrols is a mature and experienced R&D service provider that has served the international medical device industry for over 18 years. Its core business areas include medical gas control, respiratory therapy, artificial lungs, artificial livers, integrated emergency respiratory devices, and neonatal ventilation products for critically ill patients. Through the establishment of this joint research center, Tongyi Medical is further strengthening its innovation capabilities. Additionally, leveraging its own advantages, Tongyi Medical can provide Contract Research Organization (CRO) services to medical device companies in related fields.

Chairman Min XiaokunIt was pointed out that the respiratory demographic data platform developed by Children's Hospital has initially established a cloud data platform to receive usage and measurement data from terminal devices; the basic framework of a scientific research data center has been set up, and a preliminary pulmonary function assisted diagnosis platform has been built. It was also stated that some research projects have already been applied for and undertaken.

CEO Chen XingangHe stated, “As we progress in the post-pandemic era, both physicians and patients have gained a greater understanding of respiratory diseases. In the future, with the trend toward miniaturization and home use of devices in the respiratory field, related sectors will usher in significant development opportunities. Meanwhile, Tongyi Medical will achieve its own growth while maintaining its innovative capabilities.”

Deng Jianxin, Chairman of Lanwan Sci-Tech InnovationMr.Lanwan Sci-Tech Innovation stated: “We are optimistic about the prospects and localization trends of innovative respiratory diagnostics and therapeutics in the post-pandemic era. We are pleased to observe that Tongyi Medical has already established a global vision and resource network, continuously overcoming R&D and production challenges while adhering to innovation. We believe that Tongyi Medical’s sustained efforts in innovative R&D, product registration, and commercial promotion will enable it to take a comprehensive lead in the innovative respiratory sector, delivering significant value to fields such as respiratory disease diagnosis in China. Lanwan Sci-Tech Innovation holds Tongyi Medical in high regard and will continue to support the company. We look forward to Tongyi Medical’s rapid growth and its role in leading industry development.”
