On June 10, 2023, the VB-Link Future Healthcare Specialty Innovation Solutions Challenge – Oncology City Round was successfully held at Fosun Tech Park in Shanghai! The event brought together 19 oncology projects from fields such as biopharmaceuticals, medical devices, digital health, and healthcare services for sequential roadshows, competing for three major awards: Most Commercially Valuable Award, Most Innovative Potential Award, and Best Development Exploration Award!

Throughout years of medical advancement, innovation has driven continuous transformation in oncology treatment. Against this backdrop, the Future Medical Specialty Innovation Solutions Challenge (VB-Link Competition) was launched. The VB-Link Oncology City Competition received registrations from over 35 oncology projects, with 19 advancing to the city-level round. Participants included hospital professors, research institute scientists, and leading industry talents, alongside high-quality innovative cases from prestigious universities such as Peking University. The projects advancing to the city competition covered a diverse range of cutting-edge fields, including early cancer diagnosis and screening, AI-driven drug discovery, cell therapy, and organoid disease models.
The competition attracted a total of 11 distinguished judges, including clinical experts and scholars from the Cancer Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Shanghai Cancer Institute, Zhongshan Hospital Fudan University, and Huashan Hospital Fudan University; representatives from institutions such as the Shanghai “Regional TTO” Platform and Suzhou Medical Device Innovation Center; and investors from Fosun Star Future, Fosun Health Capital, Hetang Venture Capital, and Chuangrui Investment.
At the outset of the competition,General Manager, Henlius Shanghai Innovation Center、Dr. Shan Yongqiang, Partner of the Fosun Science and Technology Innovation CommitteeDelivering the opening remarks, Shan Yongqiang shared his insights on innovation and his expectations for the future of innovation in China’s healthcare industry, affirming the significance of this Oncology Challenge for driving innovation across the entire healthcare sector.

Immediately following, inBi Yuanfeng, Co-founder and COO of VCBeatUnder the moderation of VCBeat, representatives from each participating project delivered compelling pitch presentations. A panel of 11 senior experts and leading figures from the oncology industry served as judges, evaluating the projects across six dimensions: completeness of the business plan, team background, project innovation, market operations, distinctive advantages, and on-site Q&A performance, thereby providing professional insights for both the competition and the projects. Ultimately, the awards were granted to six projects for the “Most Commercially Valuable Award,” seven for the “Most Innovative Exploration Award,” and six for the “Most Promising Potential Award.” Among these, the six projects and teams that received the “Most Commercially Valuable Award” successfully advanced to the VB-Link Competition Grand Finals.

The VB-Link Future Healthcare Specialty Innovation Solutions Challenge is organized by VB100 and VCBeat, co-organized by Zhongguancun Development Group and the Administrative Committee of Tianjin Binhai–Zhongguancun Science Park, and co-supported by institutions such as Furong Laboratory and the Intellectual Property Center of Central South University. It has also received strong support from nearly 40 leading venture capital firms, multinational corporations, and innovation centers.
The inaugural competition featured four specialty tracks: ophthalmology, neurology, cardiology, and oncology. City-level heats were held successively in Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, and Hangzhou, culminating in the grand finale in Tianjin on June 28.
