In the current entrepreneurial era, where “domestic substitution” serves as the main theme, frontier translational outcomes based on original innovative technologies are also receiving heightened attention. The translation process from 0 to 1 involves five stages: “proposing the original concept, achieving preliminary results, securing preliminary results, mastering mature technology, and realizing initial products.” This process is fraught with challenges such as high risks, substantial investments, and stringent requirements. Although reaching the peak of translation is difficult, many are willing to take on the challenge. With significant policy support, an increasing number of scientists are participating more actively in the translation of scientific achievements; research institutions and their leaders are also vigorously promoting translation activities within their organizations. Technology transfer centers at research institutions, the Ministry of Science and Technology or local science and technology bureaus, innovation centers or incubation centers, and third-party service agencies are injecting vital resources—such as policies, technology, and funding—into achievement translation. Investment firms are gradually focusing more on early-stage projects... The integration and innovation of these key elements have created a favorable environment for the germination of new ventures.
VB100, VCBeat, and VCBeat Research Institute launched in April this year through self-nomination and institutional recommendations. The 1st VB-link AwardCall for Nominations. Held in conjunction with the 2023 Future Medical Achievements Transformation and Cooperation Conference (VB-link Conference), this awards program invites nominations from institutions, individuals, and projects actively engaged in translation efforts. It aims to identify representatives of innovation in medical research translation and accelerate the process of translating medical achievements. The selection primarily focuses onBreakthroughs in R&D of Medical Science and Technology Achievements, Efficiency in the Translation of Medical Science and Technology Achievements, and Comprehensiveness in Empowerment by Medical Science and Technology Achievementsmultidimensional and differentiated assessments across various dimensions, with the final winners selected by the VB-link Award Jury through a process of preliminary review, re-evaluation, and announcement. On June 29, an award ceremony was held at the VB-link Conference in Tianjin. Mr. Li Datao, Founder of Danhuang Technology, and Mr. Wang Guanglong, Executive Director of the VB-link Award Selection Committee, presented awards to the individual and organizational winners and posed for commemorative photos.
China’s translation of medical research achievements has entered a golden era, with numerous laboratory research projects achieving productization and industrialization. As barriers between disciplines are broken down and resources from universities, hospitals, capital firms, and enterprises are integrated, the pathway for translating medical research outcomes is expected to become increasingly smooth.
