Imagine this: whenever individuals purchase medications critical to their health and well-being from hospital pharmacy windows or retail pharmacies, they can simply take out their smartphones, open WeChat, and scan the QR code on the medication packaging. This action instantly reveals information such as drug authenticity, manufacturer details, and patient education materials. Such convenience not only provides peace of mind regarding medication use but also clearly identifies the “responsible parties” within the healthcare supply chain. This type of convenient and trustworthy smart pharmaceutical service is becoming increasingly widespread.
On July 3, Tencent Cloud and iCode, a global provider of digital traceability solutions, signed a strategic cooperation agreement. The two parties will jointly launch end-to-end compliant traceability product solutions for the pharmaceutical and medical device sectors, assigning authentic, traceable, and verifiable unique “code” data to pharmaceutical and medical device products. By scanning GS1-standard QR codes via WeChat’s “Scan” feature, users can access traceability information, thereby enhancing the authority and convenience of pharmaceutical and medical device traceability and ensuring safer and more accessible medication use.
Xie Zhaohui, President of Aichuang Technology; Yin Xiaomei, Vice President of Aichuang Technology; Wu Wenda, Vice President of Tencent Health; and Wang Feng, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, among other distinguished guests, attended the signing ceremony to witness the two teams execute a strategic cooperation agreement. Centered on digital upgrading, both parties will leverage their respective advantageous resources to engage in deep collaboration across product solutions, business strategy, operational models, and user markets. Together, they aim to facilitate the digital transformation of the pharmaceutical and medical device supply chain and explore new models for the digital upgrading of pharmaceuticals and medical devices in both domestic and international markets.
Aichuang Technology and Tencent Cloud Join Hands to Expand Digital Traceability in the Pharmaceutical and Medical Device Industry
In recent years, China, the United States, the European Union, and Japan have been actively advancing unique identification systems for pharmaceuticals and medical devices. By assigning a unique “ID” to each medical device product, these systems enable end-to-end traceability and full-process regulatory oversight of pharmaceuticals and medical devices. This enhances supply chain transparency and operational efficiency for pharmaceutical and medical device companies, facilitates effective monitoring of adverse events and recall of problematic products, and ultimately improves the quality of healthcare services and ensures patient safety.
iCreate Technology is an internationally leading provider of digital traceability solutions, serving over 3,000 pharmaceutical manufacturing clients, completing the retrofitting of 20,000 production lines, and operating in more than 20 countries and regions worldwide. As a designated builder of national secondary nodes for identifier resolution by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), iCreate Technology focuses on independently developed IoT digital technologies. It provides “one item, one code” digital solutions to industries such as global pharmaceuticals and healthcare, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), and industrial products, empowering enterprises to build comprehensive digital systems across their entire industry chains.
Xie Zhaohui, President of iCreate Technology, pointed out that the informatization-based traceability system, as the infrastructure for the digital transformation of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, must not only meet national regulatory requirements but also ensure usability, advancement, and scalability to achieve digital management across the entire production and distribution chain. By partnering with Tencent, iCreate Technology will integrate both parties’ capabilities and resources in production, supply, and service sectors, jointly exploring new scenarios in the pharmaceutical traceability industry through new technologies and innovative solutions.
Wu Wenda, Vice President of Tencent Health, stated that digital technology is bringing unprecedented possibilities to the pharmaceutical and medical device industry. Leveraging accumulated expertise in AI and big data, along with extensive digital content resources, Tencent Health will collaborate closely with iCreate Technology in the pharmaceutical sector. Built upon a secure, efficient, and elastic cloud infrastructure, this partnership aims to provide a comprehensive digital capability map covering the entire value chain and all processes. By enabling patients to scan medication package codes via WeChat’s “Scan” feature, and building on “one item, one code” traceability, services such as electronic package inserts, online consultations, and medical science popularization will be integrated into patient scenarios. Furthermore, by leveraging the Tencent ecosystem and tools like Enterprise WeChat, the initiative seeks to serve more users and support enterprises in achieving efficient digital operations. This approach not only establishes innovative, full-ecosystem solution models but also fosters long-term, positive interactions with pharmaceutical and medical device companies and ecosystem partners.
Wang Feng, Vice President of Tencent Cloud, stated that leveraging the foundational platform capabilities of Tencent Cloud, both parties have engaged in deep cooperation across multiple dimensions—including code issuance platforms, code assignment management, and data analytics—by implementing anti-counterfeiting and traceability product solutions in various industries such as retail, agriculture, food, and warehousing and logistics. This joint effort to advance digital traceability for pharmaceuticals and medical devices will unlock greater potential for digital innovation and drive efficient transformation within the industry.
The implementation and widespread adoption of smart healthcare have entered a phase of “gear-shifting acceleration,” becoming the convergence point for both Healthy China and Digital China. The exploration by Aichuang Technology and Tencent Cloud in the digital traceability of pharmaceuticals and medical devices will impose a “security code” on the industry’s healthy development by strengthening regulatory measures and risk control capabilities. In the future, this collaboration will also meet the multidimensional needs of pharmaceutical and medical device enterprise customers, achieving mutual development and long-term win-win outcomes.
