On July 29, Baidu Health entered into a strategic partnership with GlaxoSmithKline (GSK), a global leader in biopharmaceuticals. The two parties will deeply integrate their respective strengths, leveraging GSK’s medical and scientific expertise and Baidu Health’s technological advantages to launch multiple disease education initiatives, starting with herpes zoster prevention as a pilot program. They will also gradually explore deeper collaboration in the prevention of other diseases, thereby improving public access to high-quality health resources. Meanwhile, the two sides will continue to cooperate on projects in various fields, including digital innovation, based on cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence.

Relevant data indicate that China is currently in a stage of rapid population aging. As of 2022, the number of people aged 60 and above in China reached 280 million, accounting for 19.9% of the total population, making it the country with the largest elderly population in the world. Alongside China’s aging process, there are approximately 1.56 million new cases of herpes zoster among individuals aged 50 and above each year, leading to an increasingly severe disease burden. The treatment and prevention of herpes zoster have become urgent challenges to address. To this end, both parties have designated herpes zoster prevention as a pilot disease area of focus in their strategic cooperation.
