On August 26, 2023, Phase II of the ATLATL Beijing International Innovation Platform, located in the Zhongguancun Life Science Park, officially commenced operations, marking the full launch of the ATLATL Beijing International Innovation Platform. Attending the inauguration ceremony were Liu Qiang, Deputy Director of the Future Science City Administrative Committee (Life Science Park Administrative Committee) and Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy District Mayor (concurrently) of the Changping District People’s Government; Yang Pengyu, Director of the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Division of the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission and the Zhongguancun Administrative Committee; Jin Yi, Director of the Pharmaceutical and Health Industry Division of the Future Science City Administrative Committee (Life Science Park Administrative Committee); Wang Ying, Chairman of Beijing Changping Science Park Development Co., Ltd.; and Chen Junhao, Deputy General Manager of Beijing Zhongguancun Technology Service Co., Ltd., among other relevant leaders.

As a strong support for Changping District’s efforts to create a “nuclear explosion point” for Beijing’s pharmaceutical and health industry, Zhongguancun Life Science Park has adhered to the “dual improvement” of both soft and hard environments, introducing the Beijing Feibiao International Innovation Platform (hereinafter referred to as “Beijing Feibiao”) in 2021. As of the end of July 2023, Beijing Feibiao had helped more than 20 biomedical innovation teams accelerate their development, with total corporate financing exceeding RMB 2 billion.


At the event, Liu Qiang, Deputy Director of the Future Science City Administrative Committee (Life Science Park Administrative Committee) and Member of the Party Leadership Group and Deputy District Mayor (concurrently serving) of the Changping District People’s Government, delivered an address.

Liu Qiang stated that striving to become a globally influential center for scientific and technological innovation is an inevitable choice for Beijing to achieve high-quality development. Changping District has proactively integrated into the overall framework of building Beijing into an international center for scientific and technological innovation and advancing the construction of the “Two Zones.” The introduction of the Feibiao International Innovation Platform represents a significant measure by Changping District to accelerate the development of the “Life Valley” into a world-leading hub. As a first-class research acceleration platform, Feibiao possesses profound insights into the industrial ecosystem and demonstrates innovative practices. What makes it particularly valuable is that Feibiao not only supports the innovative R&D efforts of various enterprises but also establishes multi-dimensional, in-depth collaborations with resident companies, thereby creating a unique ecosystem. Looking ahead, we hope Feibiao will continue to leverage its leading advantages by linking international resources and building bridges for global innovation. At the event, Ms. Han Dan, Corporate Vice President of Novo Nordisk and President of its China R&D Center, and Ms. Yu Bingke, Head of the External Innovation Center at Boehringer Ingelheim, attended and delivered speeches.


Beijing Feibiao has partnered with Boehringer Ingelheim to jointly establish the BI-ATLATL Joint Laboratory, providing comprehensive support for innovative biopharmaceutical projects, including proof of concept, patent strategy, R&D services, and commercial collaboration. Additionally, it has co-established the MITC Innovation Technology Center with Miltenyi Biotec to build a new ecosystem of open innovation and collaboration in the field of cell and gene therapy (CGT), working together with innovative project companies to create diversified R&D pipelines.

 

Leveraging its robust core capabilities, ATLATL has not only attracted multinational corporations but also numerous renowned research institutions to jointly establish collaborative platforms. At the launch ceremony, Beijing Feibiao International Innovation Platform signed cooperation agreements for joint platform development with leading upstream and downstream industry players such as Waters Corporation and Danaher, working together to empower new drug R&D. Mr. Xu Bing, President of Waters China, and Mr. Zhu Lin, Director of Strategic Marketing for Life Sciences at Danaher, attended the ceremony.


The Beijing Feibiao International Innovation Platform has a total construction area of 8,600 square meters and features Class A R&D spaces, including more than 30 laboratories, two sets of Grade B+C universal GMP facilities, and one PCR clinical testing center. It provides tenant companies with R&D spaces and professional facilities equivalent to those offered by multinational pharmaceutical enterprises.


At the event, the first batch of clients for Phase II of the Beijing International Innovation Platform for Biotech formally signed agreements to move in: Shenyuanzhiyao Biotechnology (Beijing) Co., Ltd., Ruiyu (Beijing) Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Beijing Molecule Mind Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Weiyuan Digital Intelligence Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Beijing Hemu Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Beisai Hongsheng (Beijing) Biotechnology Co., Ltd.


At the subsequent thematic salon on the translation of biomedical research achievements, experts and scholars from the scientific research community as well as industry representatives shared insights on topics such as “Challenges and Prospects of Cell Therapy,” “How Multi-Omics Technologies Empower Pharmaceutical R&D,” “Unveiling the Mysteries of Life with High-Throughput, Automated Mass Spectrometry,” and “Interactive R&D Facilitating Proof-of-Concept.”


The launch ceremony also marked the second anniversary of the establishment of the Beijing Feibiao International Innovation Platform. Over the past two years, more than ten innovative teams, including Shenji Changhua, Huashen Zhiyao, Shenyuanzhi Yao, and Yinuoweikang, have joined Beijing Feibiao. Their projects cover R&D and innovation in areas such as drug development, gene editing, novel therapeutic technologies, and AI-driven drug design. Notably, the Shenji Changhua team, which focuses on neurological diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), achieved a “move-in-ready” setup at Feibiao. This eliminated the need for months-long laboratory construction and equipment procurement, allowing the team to devote itself fully to scientific research and technology transfer from day one. With the support of the Beijing Feibiao International Innovation Platform, Shenji Changhua has experienced rapid growth over the past year, and its therapeutic solution has successfully entered clinical trials.


To support more innovation and entrepreneurship teams, Beijing ATLATL will further expand its platform scale and continuously enhance its service capabilities. According to Jiang Maohua, head of the Beijing ATLATL International Innovation Platform, ATLATL plans to build the “Life Valley ATLATL Innovation Complex” in the Life Science Park, with a total construction area of approximately 75,000 square meters. The project includes over 50,000 square meters dedicated to industrialization and R&D translation platforms, aiming to accelerate the development of the biopharmaceutical industry in Changping’s “Life Valley.”


On the fertile ground of innovation that is Beijing, Feibiao has cultivated an open, international, and highly dynamic ecosystem for innovative collaboration.
