Innovative Medical Device Solution Provider

Brain-Computer Interface Community learned that recently, Genlight Neurotech (Hangzhou Jialiang Brain Science Co., Ltd.) has completed a Series C round of financing worth several hundred million yuan, with participation from well-known institutions such as Yufu Fund and Suzhou Chenzhide Investment Partnership (L.P.). After the completion of this round of funding, GenLight's post-money valuation is close to 1 billion US dollars.
It is reported that the company's management team may consider another round of financing this year and plans to ride on the hype of brain-computer interface to go public next year. Data from Tianyancha shows that the company has recently completed a key entity change, transforming from a "limited liability company" to a "joint-stock company," and officially changed its external brand name from "GenLight Medical."Changed to "GenLight," with obvious intentions of paving the way for an IPO.
From "Genlight Medical" to "GenLight"
GenLight, established in Hangzhou in 2020, is a high-tech platform enterprise focused on the industrialization of cutting-edge technologies in the fields of brain science and neurosurgery. It is dedicated to providing minimally invasive and digital innovative device solutions for various neurological disorders such as drug-resistant epilepsy, brain tumors, and Parkinson's disease.

The company has built four core technology platforms:
BCMod Brain-Computer Modulation Platform: Achieve precise treatment of neurological disorders by interpreting and modulating brain neural signals through implantable devices;
Glaser Medical Laser Platform: Laser technology for minimally invasive and precise ablation of intracranial lesions;
Brain-Computer Chip Platform: Core chip independently developed for the acquisition and processing of neural signals;
AI Assistance and Software Platform: Develop stereotactic surgical planning software to assist doctors in formulating precise surgical plans.
Core Products Enter Key Commercialization Phase
On the product front, GenLight has formed a complete product pipeline layout, with both of its core products achieving milestone progress.
ItsLaserROIt is the first domestically developed magnetic resonance-guided laser ablation system (LITT) for brain applications to be approved in China, receiving authorization from the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) by the end of October 2025. This provides a brand-new localized solution for minimally invasive treatment of intracranial lesions.
Another heavy-hitting productEpilcureIt is an implantable closed-loop self-responsive neurostimulation system specifically designed for patients with drug-resistant epilepsy, and also the first closed-loop neurostimulator in Asia. The system can collect EEG signals in real time, automatically identify precursors of epileptic seizures, and instantly deliver precise electrical stimulation. Currently, Epilcure has entered the special review process for innovative medical devices in China, completed the first Phase III clinical trial implantation in China, and is expected to submit a registration application in the near future.
Founder Background
Dr. Cao Peng, the founder of the company, was born in 1986. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering from Xi'an Jiaotong University and earned his doctorate from the French National Higher Institute of Research and the Université de Technologie de Compiègne, specializing in magnetic resonance and brain science. After returning to China, Cao Peng gained experience at GE Healthcare Systems (China) Co., Ltd. and a domestic heart valve company before establishing Genlight Neurotech (formerly GenLight) in Hangzhou in 2020.
Track Heat: Brain-Computer Interface Enters the Eve of Industrialization
GenLight's financing and initiation of its IPO plan come as China's brain science sector is experiencing an unprecedented influx of capital.
Data shows that in 2025, there were 24 to 26 financing events completed in China's brain-computer interface sector throughout the year, with a total financing amount of approximately 1.45 billion yuan. However, entering 2026, this pace was completely broken—within just the first three months, domestic brain-computer interface companies completed 17 financing events, with a total amount reaching about 3.8 billion yuan, surpassing the total of the previous year. As of April 7, the total financing amount exceeded 4 billion yuan.
Landmark events followed one after another: In January, BrainCo, a non-invasive brain-computer interface company, completed approximately 2 billion yuan in financing, setting a record for the largest single-round funding in China's brain-computer interface history; in March, Gestalt Robotics, an ultrasonic brain-computer interface company, completed a 150 million yuan angel round of financing, breaking the record for the highest angel round in this field; in the same month, Stair Medical, a leading invasive brain-computer interface company, completed a 500-million-yuan strategic financing led by Alibaba. The entry of internet giants like Alibaba and Tencent marks that the brain-computer interface sector has moved from pure early-stage hard-tech investment to a phase of deep involvement by industrial capital.
At the policy level, the 2026 government work report for the first time included "brain-computer interface," explicitly listing it as one of the key future industries to be cultivated during the "15th Five-Year Plan" period. In December 2025, the National Venture Capital Guidance Fund, funded by ultra-long-term special treasury bonds, was officially launched, designating "brain-computer interface" as one of the seven key investment areas. Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, and other regions have also successively established special funds for brain science.
In terms of product approval, in March 2026, the National Medical Products Administration (NMPA) officially approved the innovative product registration application for the implantable brain-computer interface hand motor function compensation system developed by Boyitong Medical Technology. This marks the world's first approved invasive brain-computer interface medical device. Subsequently, the National Healthcare Security Administration (NHSA) proactively assigned a medical insurance code to the product, bridging the critical gap from approval to clinical application for this innovative product.
According to the "China Brain-Computer Interface Commercialization Prospective Report," the market size of brain-computer interfaces in China is expected to exceed 5 billion yuan by 2026 and reach 15 billion yuan by 2030. Industry experts pointed out that the investment logic for brain-computer interfaces is gradually shifting from "concept-focused and position-securing" to "implementation-focused and industrialization capability." A senior medical investor stated, "There is indeed a certain degree of overheated sentiment around brain-computer interfaces at present, but it cannot be denied that it has entered the eve of real industrialization. The industry has moved from laboratories to clinical settings, and a few fast-moving players are even about to begin commercialization."
Against this backdrop, GenLight, with its approved LaserRO and the upcoming registration of Epilcure, is seeing a critical window for commercial "takeoff," bolstered by both capital and policy support.
