First Chinese Innovation and Translation Competition in Plastic Surgery Concludes Successfully, Driving Technological Commercialization and Ecosystem Collaboration

On October 29, 2023, the First Plastic Surgery Innovation and Translation Competition concluded at the Shougang Exhibition Center in Shijingshan District, Beijing.

 

The competition attracted plastic surgery experts, researchers, and cutting-edge technology companies from across China, showcasing the country’s latest research achievements and advanced technologies in this field.

 

The competition awarded one First Prize, two Second Prizes, three Third Prizes, and six Excellence Awards. Among them, the project titled “A Biomaterial for Trauma Repair: KGF-Active Peptides Screened from a Phage Random Peptide Library,” submitted by the team of Du Hong, Liang Haojun, and Zong Xianlei from the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, won the First Prize.

 

As a key event of the inaugural Beijing International Medical Aesthetics Industry Development and Product Exhibition & Badachu Medical Aesthetics Industry Forum, this competition was jointly initiated by Beijing Badachu Plastic Surgery Medical Technology Group and China Technology Exchange under the guidance of the Chinese Alliance for the Development of Plastic Surgery. Organized by Beichen Jingxi Sci-Fi (Beijing) Exhibition Co., Ltd. and Beijing Maker Bang Technology Incubator Co., Ltd., the competition aims to promote technological innovation and the translation of achievements in the field of plastic surgery, provide an influential platform for the display and exchange of innovative projects in China’s plastic surgery sector, and enhance the level of innovation and translational capacity in China’s plastic surgery and medical aesthetics industries.

 

Qi Zuoliang, Chairman of the Expert Committee of the Competition and former President of the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, stated, “We hope that this competition will inspire greater enthusiasm for technological innovation among clinicians, researchers, and enterprises, promote the translation and application of scientific achievements, make greater contributions to the development of plastic surgery in China, and make the world more beautiful and colorful.”

 

Many experts stated that the competition was not only a grand event for technological innovation and the translation of research outcomes into practical applications, but also a platform for showcasing achievements, facilitating academic exchange, and promoting collaborative partnerships.

 

At the event, Fang Li, Deputy Director of the Intellectual Property Center at Central South University, Director of the Xiangya Medical Department, and expert in the Ministry of Science and Technology’s Strategic Research Group on the Transformation of Health and Medical Technological Achievements, stated, “The successful holding of the First Plastic Surgery Innovation and Translation Competition marks a high level of attention paid to technological innovation and achievement translation within China’s plastic surgery field.” The translation of scientific and technological achievements can not only promote the practical application of technological innovations but also inject new vitality into socioeconomic development.

 

Meanwhile, the competition has established an ecosystem for technological innovation and the commercialization of research outcomes, providing a platform for exchange and collaboration among clinical experts, researchers, technology enterprises, and investors. This process of co-building an ecosystem reflects the advancement of medical technology in China.

 

Until December 31, 2023, the Competition Organizing Committee will continue to provide thoughtful support services, offering free end-to-end incubation services such as commercialization consulting, entrepreneurial coaching, investment and financing assistance, and matchmaking between medical institutions and enterprises.

 

This competition has injected new vitality into the development of plastic surgery in China and provided new opportunities for the transformation of scientific and technological achievements. It will accelerate interdisciplinary research and collaborative innovation between Chinese plastic surgery and cutting-edge technologies, explore diversified applications and commercialization of advanced technologies, promote the integration of resources among medical practice, industry, academia, research, and capital in China’s plastic surgery sector, build a multidisciplinary, cross-border ecosystem for exchange and cooperation, and make greater contributions to advancing the development of plastic surgery and innovation in medical aesthetics technology in China.


Introduction to the Beijing Medical Aesthetics Exhibition


AMIE Beijing Medical Aesthetics Exhibition, themed “Leading the Development of Plastic Surgery and Promoting Technological Innovation in Medical Aesthetics,” will feature four specialized zones: Plastic Surgery, Non-Surgical Medical Aesthetics, Functional Skincare, and Dental Care.

 

Concurrent supporting events, such as the Badachu Medical Aesthetics Industry Forum and professional salons, will bring together 400 professionals from government regulatory authorities, research institutions, leading enterprises, financial institutions, and digital medical aesthetics platforms. Additionally, academic conferences, including the 12th Beijing International Conference on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, will be held at the same venue during the exhibition, with an expected attendance of nearly 1,500 plastic surgery experts and medical personnel.

Introduction to Major Organizational Units


The Chinese Alliance for the Development of Plastic Surgery was initiated by the Plastic Surgery Hospital of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, with 59 institutions from 31 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) across China becoming its founding member units.
