2024 CPIE Conference Addresses Two Core Challenges in Pharmaceutical Innovation: Advancing High-Quality R&D and Clinical Value Realization

From 2015 to 2021, ecosystem players—including capital investors, biotech firms, pharmaceutical companies, and CXO providers—jointly ushered in the first boom period for China’s innovative drug industry. Since 2021, regulatory policies have been continuously updated to deflate capital bubbles; R&D paradigms have shifted, rendering previous “me-too” strategies unsustainable and creating an urgent need for more valuable, differentiated innovation; meanwhile, the demand side is exploring payment models suited to new drugs, ensuring that high-value innovations receive reasonable returns.

The pharmaceutical innovation industry is facing two major challenges: first, how to achieve high-quality, high-value original innovation; and second, how to efficiently commercialize products post-launch to realize their clinical value.

Against this backdrop, the 2024 Xipai Conference (the 7th Pharmaceutical Innovation Ecosystem Conference), themed “Navigating the Period of Differentiation: Reconstructing the Ecosystem for R&D and Clinical Value Translation,” will be held from April 8 to 10 at the Zhangjiang Science Hall in Shanghai. 2024 XiPai Conference (The 7th Pharmaceutical Innovation Ecosystem Summit)

According to the Organizing Committee, the 2024 Xipai Conference will, for the first time, bring together clinical experts and industry ecosystem stakeholders on the same stage. Covering “industry, academia, research, healthcare, capital, and commerce,” the conference aims to reconstruct the connection between the industry and physician communities, establish an industry exchange platform, stimulate intellectual engagement among various stakeholders, and drive the development of the innovative drug sector. The event will gather more than 20 leaders from regulatory bodies, government agencies, and associations; over 100 academicians, recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, principal investigators of National Natural Science Foundation projects, and researchers from universities and scientific research institutes; more than 300 top-tier clinical experts and physicians; over 400 C-level executives and mid-to-senior managers from innovative pharmaceutical companies; more than 1,500 R&D professionals from innovative drug enterprises; over 300 representatives from CXO and third-party service providers; more than 600 leading domestic and international institutional investors from primary and secondary markets; and over 50 mainstream media outlets from within and outside the industry. Together, they will convene for insightful discussions, anticipate innovation trends, and jointly explore solutions, with total attendance expected to exceed 3,000 participants.

It is reported that the West Pharma Conference (Pharmaceutical Innovation Ecosystem Conference), a highly influential and forward-looking industrial ecosystem event in China’s pharmaceutical innovation sector, has been successfully held for six sessions. The themes of each session have closely addressed key industry challenges, garnering widespread attention, extensive participation, and high acclaim from the industry. Distinguished academic experts in pharmaceutical innovation, including Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Deng Zixin, Chen Kaixian, Dong Chen, and Pei Gang, as well as Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering Xu Binghe, Tian Zhigang, and Ding Jian, have delivered insightful presentations at the conference.
