What Kind of Era Are We In?
Computing drives intelligence, technology evolves at a breathtaking pace, and innovations emerge in rapid succession. Global innovation trends are characterized by diversification and cross-disciplinary integration.
Universities and research institutes have become the epicenter of technological innovation; they are the primary venues for cultivating future talent in scientific and technological innovation, as well as the main frontiers for cutting-edge scientific research.
Professors and researchers advance scientific knowledge through basic scientific research, laying a solid foundation for future applied research. Applied research, along with the translation of scientific achievements and technology transfer in universities, profoundly influences the development and trajectory of industrial innovation. For instance, advancements in quantum computing have enhanced the processing of medical data and improved the efficiency of drug discovery; innovations in nanomaterials have introduced new solutions for drug delivery, disease diagnosis, tissue engineering, and disease treatment; and breakthroughs in algorithms have propelled the application of artificial intelligence into a phase of leapfrog development...
In the current era of globalized innovation, universities and research institutes have emerged as pivotal players in the global innovation landscape. They serve not only as vital sources of innovation but also as significant drivers of economic and social development. According to theAnnual Report on the Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements in China 2022》shows that in 2021, the total contract value of technology transfers by 3,648 universities and research institutes in China through assignment, licensing, equity investment based on valuation, as well as technology development, consulting, and services amounted to RMB 158.18 billion, representing a year-on-year increase of 24.4%. The amount actually received within the year (excluding equity investment based on valuation) reached RMB 101.69 billion, up by 23.5% from the previous year. With the gradual implementation of a series of policies and regulations promoting the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements in China, coupled with rising industrial innovation demands, the translation of research outcomes by Chinese universities and research institutes has entered a stage of rapid development.
Building on this, the 8th Future Healthcare Ecosystem Expo in 2024 once again answers the call for translational medicine, organized byVB100、VCBeatJointBirmingham BiotechHosting a Forum on the Commercialization of Scientific Research Achievements. The forum will focus on the developmental trajectory, innovation, and synergy in translating scientific research into practical applications. Through a format combining keynote speeches and roundtable discussions, participants will jointly explore innovative practices in commercialization, chart new pathways to bridge the “last mile” in transforming research outcomes, and foster ecosystem development and industrial symbiosis.
