Haier Biomedical Unveils Full-Scenario Digital Intelligence Solutions at CMEF 2024 Following Life Science Strategy Launch

Apr 13, 2024 10:07 CST Updated 10:07

From April 11 to 14, the 89th China International Medical Equipment Fair (Spring) (CMEF), themed “Innovative Technology, Leading the Future with Intelligence,” was held at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai. This edition of CMEF focused on frontier sectors of the industry, centering on digitalization and intelligence, with particular attention to the latest developments in smart healthcare and the digital operation of medical devices.

On the day before the opening of CMEF (April 10), Haier Biomedical held the “Empowering Life Science Discovery and Clinical Applications” forum to announce its life science strategy. By progressively refining its EPS model, which integrates hardware, software, and services, the company aims to achieve an organic combination of digital-intelligence innovation with R&D and production processes, create comprehensive scenario-based digital-intelligence solutions, and drive sustained development in the two major fields of life sciences and medical innovation.

On the day following the strategic announcement (April 11), VCBeat visited Hall 6.1 (IVD & Life Sciences) at the National Exhibition and Convention Center in Shanghai, where Haier Biomedical is located, to gain a fresh perspective on the company.

Haier Biomedical Upgrades Life Science Services with Digital Intelligence

Hall 6.1 is the comprehensive exhibition area for IVD & Life Sciences, featuring over 200 IVD and life sciences companies, with the entire zone divided by specialized sub-sectors. According to VCBeat’s observations, the T18 exhibition area, where Qingdao Haier Biomedical Co., Ltd. is located, has gathered multiple players in the life sciences services sector.

Life science services primarily encompass several key segments, including research reagents, model organisms, laboratory equipment and consumables, and sequencing and library preparation services. As a technology-intensive industry characterized by multidisciplinary integration, it draws upon specialized knowledge and cutting-edge technologies from fields such as chemistry, physics, biology, materials science, computer science, and bioinformatics, resulting in high entry barriers. With the rapid advancement of high-tech innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, and artificial intelligence (AI), the scope of life science services continues to expand, evolving toward digitalization and intelligent solutions.

Amid the trend of countless manufacturers continually adding new interpretations to the meaning of life science services, Haier Biomedical’s understanding of such services stands out as unique.

At the Haier Biomedical booth of CMEF, the full-scenario digital-intelligence solutions left a deep impression. On one hand, Haier Biomedical showcased innovative smart laboratory solutions for cell therapy laboratories, animal laboratories, and biobanks, highlighting its digital-intelligent smart laboratory framework covering eight major scenarios, including cell biology, microbiology, physical and chemical analysis, and molecular biology. By providing integrated hardware, software, and service solutions, it offers users a new experience in laboratory construction and management characterized by automation, intelligence, IoT connectivity, and shared resources.

On the other hand, Haier Biomedical also showcased its upgraded comprehensive digital-intelligent solution for smart medication management in hospitals, which includes an intelligent integrated pharmacy intravenous admixture service (PIVAS) center, a smart outpatient pharmacy, and a smart inpatient pharmacy. At the exhibition, VCBeat observed that the solution is built upon three independently developed core technologies: 3D-AI visual recognition with self-learning capabilities, multi-robotic arm bionic control, and high-speed motion control. It was noted that Haier Biomedical has implemented digital-intelligent upgrades across all in-hospital medication scenarios, including outpatient/emergency departments, inpatient wards, operating rooms, nursing units, and PIVAS centers. This achievement enables closed-loop digital-intelligent management throughout the entire medication process—storage, transfer, preparation, dispensing, and administration—thereby helping hospitals achieve full traceability of medication usage information, complete transparency in medication circulation data, and comprehensive intelligent management of equipment operations.

Furthermore, Haier Biomedical showcased its end-to-end digital blood safety solution, smart vaccine solution for all scenarios, and smart health management solution for the elderly, highlighting its role in promoting urban smart health development through full-lifecycle health management spanning from infancy to adulthood and old age.

Building a Secure, Stable, and Digitally Intelligent New Infrastructure for Life Sciences

From the perspective of Haier Biomedical, safe and reliable technologies and life science equipment, along with the development of integrated digital-intelligence solutions combining software, hardware, and services, are key to the implementation and sustainable operation of multiple smart scenarios.

Haier Biomedical’s 2023 annual report, recently disclosed, shows that the company has adhered to the integration of technological innovation and digital-intelligence drive, accelerating its industrial layout with a dual growth engine of “organic + inorganic” expansion, thereby achieving high-tech, high-efficiency, and high-quality development in the fields of life sciences and medical innovation. In 2023, Haier Biomedical’s revenue from new non-storage businesses increased by over 30% year-on-year, with the proportion of service revenue rising to 17%.

At the 2024 China Medical Equipment Fair (CMEF), we may glimpse the results delivered by Haier Biomedical’s “organic + inorganic” dual growth engines. The company showcased several pioneering high-end instruments and equipment, including the industry’s first integrated distributed expansion smart management solution, China’s first precise control solution for bio-risk samples, and a fully automated cell culture workstation. Notably, within its comprehensive smart cell therapy solution, the smart cell big data management platform enables controllable and traceable management throughout the entire lifecycle of cell products. It also facilitates information-based management of materials, equipment, laboratories, and personnel, thereby streamlining multi-site clinical trials. Furthermore, in the cell preparation and culture phase, Haier Biomedical presented three scenarios—traditional static culture, automated static culture, and automated dynamic culture—to meet diverse user needs for cell cultivation.
