Over the past two decades, driven by rapid regional economic growth, the continuous rise of the middle class, increased consumption levels in Southeast Asia, population aging, and a growing burden of non-communicable diseases, Southeast Asia has gradually become one of the markets with the greatest potential for global pharmaceutical and medical device development. According to forecasts from Gaohuo Investment’s research report, the market size for medical devices in Southeast Asia is expected to exceed $100 billion by 2025. Meanwhile, MRII, an international market research firm, projects that the compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of emerging pharmaceutical markets, represented by Southeast Asian countries, will remain at 5%–8% from 2023 to 2027, surpassing the 2.5%–5.5% growth rate of developed markets. Undoubtedly, the Southeast Asian market is poised to be one of the most promising sectors for future global pharmaceutical development.

Amid the wave of globalization, numerous Chinese pharmaceutical and medical device companies have prioritized international expansion as a key strategic objective, increasingly turning their attention to Southeast Asia. For instance, Innovent Bio licensed its products to the Indonesian company Etana to facilitate market entry; Lepu Medical established a production base in Malaysia; and FAPON BIOTECH formed a joint venture with a local Indonesian enterprise to empower the localized research, development, and manufacturing of IVD products in Indonesia. These diverse forms of collaboration underscore the confidence and interest of Chinese enterprises in the Southeast Asian pharmaceutical and medical device markets.

With years of deep expertise in the Southeast Asian market, ASH HEALTH provides a comprehensive suite of overseas expansion services tailored to Chinese pharmaceutical and medical device companies. These services include interpretation of regulatory policies in Southeast Asian countries, formulation of market entry strategies, and facilitation of connections with local partners. ASH HEALTH has successfully organized numerous delegations comprising leading biopharmaceutical companies, health systems, medical institutions, and industry associations to visit Singapore and other Southeast Asian countries. These initiatives have helped organizations gain in-depth insights into overseas markets, facilitated effective resource alignment, and fostered successful project collaborations.
