Hygea Innovation Center, spanning nearly 5,000 square meters, has been transformed from the former final assembly workshop of China’s first artificial satellite, “Dong Fang Hong I.” With its futuristic design and digital-intelligent immersive experiences, it creates a sanctuary of “medical art” amidst light and shadow.

Hygea Innovation Center
It is reported that the Innovation Center was redesigned and renovated by AREP, a world-renowned French design group. This design team has previously led heritage revitalization projects such as Notre-Dame de Paris, the Blue Train Restaurant, and Beijing’s Dashilar area, creating numerous classic examples of architectural adaptive reuse. The current design is themed around “Connecting History, Showcasing the Future.” As the birthplace of Dong Fang Hong I, this site is not only where history was made, but also where dreams are realized and scientific boundaries are pushed.
Luo Fuliang, President of Hygea, introduced that beyond basic functions such as exhibition, research, and office operations, the core mission of this facility is to serve as a frontier for the integration of technology and medicine. By providing deeply immersive experiences that tightly integrate augmented reality (AR) with real-world scenarios, it delivers the most dynamic technological experience to every medical pioneer and innovator in medical engineering. Accelerating the training of clinical talent in oncology is a critical factor determining the quality and standard of future medical practice. To this end, Hygea has established a National Minimally Invasive Oncology Treatment Medical Training Center here, fostering deep multi-party collaboration among industry, academia, research, and clinical practice. This initiative aims to accelerate the development and growth of minimally invasive oncology specialists, thereby promoting the sustainable development of Chinese intelligent manufacturing, Chinese technology, and Chinese minimally invasive techniques.
Luo Fuliang stated that the idea of establishing an innovation center emerged after the birth of the first prototype of Kangbo Knife, Hygea’s domestically pioneering and internationally original composite cryo-thermal ablation product for tumors.
Compared with Europe and the United States, China exhibits a nearly tenfold gap in the penetration rate of minimally invasive interventional oncology. In addition to strengthening our technical workforce and product pipeline, high-quality physician training is a key factor in the widespread adoption of these technologies. The development of this discipline has endowed domestic innovative enterprises with a new mission.
After two years of preparation, Hygea established China's first medical innovation center dedicated to minimally invasive oncology.

The Innovation Center is equipped with three space-grade surgical pods, including a hybrid operating room (DSA + CT), as well as standalone DSA and CT operating rooms. It supports a wide range of minimally invasive interventional oncology procedures, simulation-based device training, ex vivo tissue and organ training, and live animal experiments, integrating medical care, scientific research, education, and academic exchange. By establishing a training base that simulates real-world clinical environments, the center cultivates technical talent for primary-care hospitals and contributes to the advancement of China’s minimally invasive interventional oncology sector.
Surgical Treatment of Tumors Enters the Era of Minimally Invasive Surgery.
Traditional cancer treatments, primarily consisting of surgery, radiotherapy, and pharmacotherapy, often inevitably cause significant harm to the body. In this context, minimally invasive tumor treatment technologies have emerged as a rapidly advancing field. Ablation therapy offers high target specificity, maximizing the preservation of healthy tissue. It boasts advantages such as minimal invasiveness, safety, high operability, good repeatability, and rapid postoperative recovery. Whether used as a curative or palliative approach, ablation therapy has demonstrated favorable efficacy in the comprehensive management of tumors. It is gaining increasing recognition among clinicians and has become one of the most rapidly developing cancer treatment modalities in China.
Among these, green minimally invasive therapies such as combined cryo-thermal ablation are being widely adopted in clinical practice. Hygea’s Combo Knife integrates the advantages of deep cryogenic ablation and high-temperature hyperthermia, achieving a broad therapeutic temperature range from -196°C to 85°C within a single fine probe. This innovation overcomes the limitations of conventional standalone cryoablation or hyperthermia by combining their respective strengths to achieve complete tumor inactivation. Preliminary clinical studies have demonstrated that the Combo Knife procedure not only retains the benefits of traditional cryoablation but also offers the advantages of high-temperature hemostasis and prevention of needle-track seeding, exhibiting favorable safety and efficacy profiles.
With an incision of only about 2 mm and no need for sutures, the ComboKnife offers advantages such as minimal trauma, painlessness, good tolerance, and rapid recovery. These benefits are establishing it as one of the mainstream surgical procedures. Its recent designation as a Breakthrough Device by the U.S. FDA has further underscored its technological edge, making it a quintessential example of China’s original innovations being exported to overseas markets and leading accelerated innovation in the field.
Hygea Unveils the "Yi" Series Combosword™ New Product—ELF™ Hybrid Cryo-Thermal Ablation SystemThe newly launched ELF™ Hybrid Cryo-Thermal Ablation System, part of Hygea’s "Yi" series, represents the 3.5th generation of the Combosword™ platform.
