To promote the continuous innovative development of the global and Chinese medical device industries, deepen collaboration across industry, academia, research, clinical application, and investment sectors, and stimulate the innovation vitality of enterprises and clinical healthcare professionals, China Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition (a series of activities under “Sci-Tech China”)Under the guidance of relevant units of the Ministry of Science and Technology, the event has been successfully held for six consecutive sessions since 2018. It is the national professional competition in China with the largest number of entries, the highest quality, the strongest professionalism, the most distinguished expert judges, the greatest industry influence, and the most prominent outcomes. Over the six sessions, a total of 4,045 projects registered for participation, and 484 projects were awarded first, second, and third prizes in the finals. Follow-up statistics conducted six months after the competitions revealed that the total financing amount exceeded RMB 7 billion. Some projects subsequently received research grants from ministries, provincial and municipal governments, and the military, as well as various other competition awards. The competition has effectively promoted the translation of achievements in the medical device industry and has been widely acclaimed by all sectors.

I. Organizing Units

The competition is themed “Addressing Practical Needs, Supporting the Translation of Clinical and Academic Research Achievements, and Emphasizing Technological Innovation and Innovation Services.” The competition continues to be organized byNational Medical Device Industry Technology Innovation Alliance & MedTech Innovation NetworkHosted by, WelcomeLocal Governments, Science and Technology Parks, and Research InstitutesCo-organized by.




II. Registration Categories

Entries shall be registered under the following categories:


1. In Vitro Diagnostic (IVD) Reagents


2. Analytical Instruments and Equipment


3. Medical Materials (Hygiene Materials, Dressings, etc.) and Nursing Products


4. Infection Control, Disinfection, Personal Protective Equipment, and Assistive Devices


5. Diagnostic, Therapeutic, and Surgical Instruments


6. Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Instruments and Consumables


7. Minimally Invasive Instruments and Equipment (Excluding Endoscopic and Laparoscopic Instruments)


8. Implantable and Interventional Products (Including Active and Passive Devices)


9. Other High-Value Medical Consumables


10. Small and Medium-sized Diagnostic and Treatment Equipment


11. Large-scale diagnostic and therapeutic equipment (imaging, radiotherapy, etc.)


12. Emergency and Life Support Products (Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Patient Monitoring, Anesthesiology & Respiratory Therapy, Dialysis, etc.)


13. Artificial Intelligence and Medical Robots

The above categories are divided intoStartup Group(Products or projects that have not yet obtained registration certificates at the time of application) andGrowth Group(Products obtaining the registration certificate for the first time) Registration.


The organizers will hold category-based competitions based on project registration, as well as specialized sessions to facilitate project financing, follow-up services, and industrial commercialization.


Specialized competitions will be established based on the requirements of co-organizers, categorized by product domain, clinical specialty, industrial clustering, or business model. The proposed specialized competitions include: Physicians’ Track, Nursing Track, Dental Track, Digital Health Track, Home Medical Devices Track, Precision Human Measurement Track, Industrial Translation Track, Overseas Track, and Innovation & Creativity Track (concepts or patents).




III. Eligibility Criteria for Competition Entries

Eligible projects must meet the following conditions:


1. Projects in the Startup Category must be medical devices or technologies that are still in the R&D or registration phase and have not yet obtained a Medical Device Product Registration Certificate. The Growth Category is limited to innovative medical device products that have obtained their first Medical Device Product Registration Certificate. Materials, accessories, and non-medical device products that have not undergone classification determination or cannot be registered as medical devices should apply under the "Other" category.


2. Participating projects must comply with relevant national laws, regulations, and policies, and shall not infringe upon the intellectual property rights or other legitimate rights and interests of others. Individual participants, teams, and enterprises shall be responsible for the compliance and authenticity of their registration information.


3. The medical device products involved in the competition entries must demonstrate innovation and clinical applicability, and possess certain social and market value.


4. Clinicians, nurses, biomedical engineers, and other healthcare professionals are welcome to participate or collaborate with others to register for the competition.


5. Overseas projects (including those from Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan) are welcome to register for the competition. The organizers will adjust event arrangements in a timely manner based on registration status and entry requirements. Overseas projects are encouraged to participate on-site in various categories and special overseas sessions; video-based participation may be offered if necessary. The competition organizers will provide one-on-one services to overseas projects that secure financing and establish operations in China.


6. Previous competition entries that have achieved new progress, as well as outstanding projects that have participated in other competitions, are also eligible to apply. Applicants may register for either the Growth Track or the Startup Track, depending on whether they have obtained a medical device registration certificate.


7. No fees will be charged to participants throughout the entire competition process., to encourage participation in innovation, the organizerDuring offline competitions, responsible for providing accommodation and meals for participants, and offering a certain competition subsidy based on the situation.

IV. Competition Schedule

I.

Register to Participate

Participants may log in to the competition’s official website at https://www.innomd.org/cmddec/apply/ mini-program starting from today (Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Mini Program), etc. The registration deadline isMay 20, 2024, 24:00


Registrations are accepted on a per-project (or product) basis. Each company or team may submit multiple entries, with no limit on the number of submissions.


Cross-disciplinary (composite) projects are recommended to register for competitions in two or more (primary) relevant categories, and may also simultaneously register for special sessions in (multiple) related fields.

II

Preliminary Round

Projects verified and approved through the review process will advance to the preliminary round, which will be conducted via online evaluation. The judging panel comprises renowned industry technical experts, clinical specialists, regulatory registration or review experts, and investment professionals. Both the organizers and the judges reserve the right to veto projects that fail to meet the competition requirements.

III

Category Competition

The organizer will appropriately adjust competition categories and reasonably schedule matches based on registration status. For projects participating in more than two categories, the organizer will make appropriate arrangements according to the specific circumstances of the project and the event.


Category competitions will commence in May in the form of on-site roadshows; specific dates, venues, and schedules will be announced separately.

IV

Special Session Competition

Participating projects may enter specific themed competitions based on the applicants’ preferences. The same project may participate in multiple themed competitions, depending on actual circumstances. Specific details regarding the format, schedule, venue, and competition arrangements for each themed competition will be announced separately.

V

Finals

The finals will be held in September in the form of on-site roadshows. Specific details regarding the date, venue, and schedule will be announced separately.

V. Award Categories

Based on the number of registrations, First, Second, and Third Prizes, as well as Excellence Awards, will be established for each category competition, special session competition, and the grand final.


VI. Awards for Participants

Participating projects will receive the following awards:


1. Rewards will be granted for each competition category based on the organizer’s circumstances and local industrial support policies.


2. For all projects participating in category competitions, special sessions, and the grand finals that conduct on-site roadshows, the organizers will provide free accommodation and meals for up to two representatives per project. Additionally, travel subsidies will be granted based on actual circumstances, subject to reimbursement limits upon presentation of tickets, with specific amounts detailed in the official announcements for each respective event.


3. Priority is given to recommending applications for national and local subsidies related to science and technology projects.


4. Engage in face-to-face exchanges and receive one-on-one mentoring from several leading academician reviewers and over 100 authoritative experts from regulatory bodies and the industry.


5. Priority access to the Alliance’s Medical Device Innovation Service Bases (in Suzhou, Tianjin, Xi’an, Hangzhou, Shaoxing, and other cities), with enjoyment of more than 20 one-stop outsourced innovation services.


6. Priority access to capital injections and M&A opportunities from industry enterprises and investment institutions, as well as exposure through leading media outlets.


 7. Receive special supporting policy packages from various industrial parks and innovation service institutions.


8. Facilitate substantive collaboration between selected competition entries and production and operation enterprises.


 9. Selectively publish exclusive interviews on media platforms such as the Medical Device Innovation Network and China Medical Device Information.


10. Participate free of charge in high-level training, creativity, and resource matchmaking events hosted by the organizer.


VII. Medical Device Innovation Week

To better align competing projects with industrial and innovation service resources and accelerate their growth and commercialization, the “2024 Medical Device Innovation Week” will continue to be held during the Grand Finals of the competition. This four-day event will be structured around the format of “1 Competition, 2 Exhibitions, and 15 Forums,” namelyChina Medical Device Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition Finalsand “2024 Medical Device Innovation and Service Exhibition (MISE 2024)"and"2024 China Grand Health Innovation and Entrepreneurship Resource Revitalization (Trading) Expo (HAUTE2024)” as the core, complemented by three thematic forums—2024 China International Medical Innovation Forum (CMIF2024)2024 China Medical Device Translational Medicine and Innovation Services Forum (TMIS2024)Health Science Popularization Forum (HSP2024), and the most innovative "Executive Intensive Training Program on Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Medical Devices”, supplemented by10+ Specialized Thematic Sub-forums, covering key and high-demand clinical product areas such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular devices, imaging equipment, minimally invasive surgical technologies, orthopedic instruments and materials, medical artificial intelligence, and in vitro diagnostics. It also encompasses various links across the medical device innovation ecosystem, including upstream materials and components, manufacturing processes, innovative design and contract manufacturing of medical devices, animal and clinical trials for innovative products, translation of medical achievements, and market and capital matchmaking. Through the aforementioned forums, exhibitions, series of events, and the continuous services provided by the organizers before and after the competition, a public innovation service platform will ultimately be established to gather global innovative talent, enterprises, products, and various innovation-supporting resources. This platform aims to boost local and international innovation collaboration, accelerate the translation of clinical research and institutional achievements in the medical device sector, and promote the sustained innovative development of the global and Chinese medical device industries.


Actively promote and encourage participation in the competition and Innovation Week activities by all entities, individuals, or teams associated with the medical device industry, including those involved in R&D, manufacturing, sales, usage, regulation, and services., local governments, industrial parks, enterprises, and institutions are welcome to discuss co-hosting the competition in their regions, as well as collaborating on dedicated sessions or sub-forums.Overseas project teams are welcome to compete in China.
