His previous employers include AGTC, Brammer Bio, and Encoded Therapeutics.

Song Xu is a Professor and Doctoral Supervisor at Sichuan University, Chief Scientist of the National Key Research and Development Program, Executive Director of the Chinese Society of Genetics, and Chairman of the Sichuan Society of Genetics. As one of the pioneers in the field of long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), he has been dedicated to investigating lncRNA-protein interactions and their significance in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Notably, a series of papers published between 2002 and 2009 elucidated the specific mechanisms and effector patterns by which lncRNAs participate in cancer development, representing foundational work in the field of lncRNA-protein interactions. Building on his extensive expertise in lncRNA research, he has recently developed a suite of platform technologies for the druggability of lncRNAs.

Professor Zhang has long been engaged in research on B cell development, the molecular regulation of antibody gene recombination, and autoantibodies, antiviral antibodies, and anti-tumor antibodies. For over a decade, he has led and completed more than ten research projects funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and private foundations (DANA Foundation, LRI). He serves as Vice Chairman of the Scientific Committee on Biological Therapy in China and Director of the Professional Group on Antibodies and Immune Profiling; Vice Chairman of the Scientific Committee on Precision Medicine in China; and Tenured Professor at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. He previously conducted postdoctoral research on B lymphocyte development under the mentorship of renowned immunologist Max D. Cooper. Professor Zhang has published more than 40 articles in academic journals such as Nature Immunology, Immunity, Blood, Immunological Reviews, Trends in Immunology, Journal of Clinical Investigation, and Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. He has served as a reviewer for NIH and NSF research grants and for the Lupus Research Institute in the United States, as well as for key projects of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, the NSFC Grand Award, and the Changjiang Scholars Program. He has undertaken multiple key projects supported by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the National Natural Science Foundation. In 2016, he founded Chengdu YiAnBo Biotechnology Co., Ltd.
