Recently, Xofluza, under Roche Pharmaceuticals®Baloxavir for Oral Suspension (Chinese generic name: Baloxavir Marboxil for Oral Suspension) Makes Its Online Debut on JD Health. This medication is indicated for the treatment of uncomplicated influenza A and B in pediatric patients aged 5 to under 12 years. Leveraging its supply chain strengths and pharmaceutical healthcare service capabilities, JD Health will significantly enhance the accessibility of this innovative drug, providing a more patient-friendly treatment option for children with influenza.

Data show that seasonal influenza causes 3 to 5 million severe cases and 290,000 to 650,000 deaths worldwide each year. Children are a high-risk group for influenza virus infection, with an annual incidence rate of approximately 20% to 30%. During peak epidemic seasons, the infection rate in children can reach around 50%, with the highest rates observed among those aged 5 to 9 years. In China, 90% of influenza-related hospitalizations occur in children under 15 years of age; some patients may progress to severe disease and even die.
Xofluza, launched online for the first time on JD Health®Dry suspension is an innovative RNA polymerase inhibitor. After entering the human body, it hydrolyzes to generate baloxavir, the active ingredient with anti-influenza virus effects. Baloxavir binds to cap-dependent endonuclease, blocking viral mRNA replication and thereby inhibiting viral proliferation. A study involving patients aged 1 to 12 years across 36 research sites in six countries, including the United States and Spain, showed that Xofluza®Dry suspension exhibits good tolerability.
Notably, this medication allows for precise weight-based dosing, requires only a single administration throughout the entire course of treatment, and features a strawberry flavor specifically designed for children, making it more suitable for pediatric patients with swallowing difficulties or challenges in medication adherence. For patients unable to take oral medications, precise dosing can still be achieved via gastrointestinal administration.
A Roche Pharmaceuticals representative stated that Xofluza®Dry suspension formulations will provide a more child-friendly medication experience for pediatric influenza patients, improve treatment adherence, and thereby better protect children with influenza.
