Guo Xiaotao stated in a remote video conference that pension finance is an important component of the "five major articles" of finance and a key focus of Ping An's strategic layout. He expressed the hope that, through the "Le Lian Ti" home-based elderly care ecosystem, more seniors can enjoy a worry-free, time-saving, and cost-effective later life, thereby making due contributions to both customers and the industry.
It is reported that the event was guided by the China Association of Senior Care Industry, hosted by Ping An Insurance (Group) Company Of China,Ltd., and organized by Ping An Life Insurance Company of China, Ltd. and Ping An Health Medical Technology Co., Ltd.
With rising living standards and improved medical conditions, the physical fitness and life expectancy of older adults in China have increased significantly. Their demand for quality of life is also continuously upgrading, extending from material aspects such as clothing, food, housing, transportation, and daily necessities to more refined areas including health care and spiritual and cultural enrichment. “Finding joy, pursuing learning, and remaining engaged in meaningful activities” has become a shared aspiration among a growing number of older adults.
The needs of the elderly population have also garnered policy attention. Early this year, the General Office of the State Council issued the “Opinions on Developing the Silver Economy and Enhancing the Well-being of Older Adults,” which explicitly calls for “enriching cultural, sports, and recreational services for older adults” and “diversifying business models in the tourism sector” to meet their spiritual and entertainment needs. The document also provides clear guidance on the development of universities for the elderly and senior travel. It is the shared aspiration of children that their parents enjoy good physical health and a rich spiritual life.
However, from the perspective of service supply, although China’s elderly care industry has developed rapidly in recent years, it is still insufficient to fully meet the growing and multifaceted needs of seniors, leaving considerable room for improvement. For instance, after retirement, seniors often experience a shrinking social circle, detachment from mainstream society, and a generation gap with their children, leading to increasing spiritual loneliness. Many elderly individuals still aspire to self-improvement, yet there are too few universities for the elderly, making enrollment highly competitive and failing to meet actual demand. Furthermore, while the “silver-haired” demographic has become a significant group in tourism consumption, they frequently encounter chaotic practices such as forced shopping during tours, poor attitudes from tour guides, and difficulties in defending their rights afterward. These various issues contributing to a “loss of joy” are quietly eroding the quality of life for the elderly.
Guided by the China Aging Industry Association, Ping An Insurance (Group) Company Of China,Ltd. released the “Initiative for ‘Creative and Enjoyable Aging’” (hereinafter referred to as the “Initiative”). Centered on the concept of “Creative and Enjoyable Aging,” the Initiative focuses on addressing the issue of diminished happiness among the elderly. It advocates enriching their later years through services such as emotional support, elderly education, and health-and-wellness tourism, while calling for collective action across society. The Initiative puts forward three major proposals: First, it calls for heightened attention to the mental health of the elderly and the establishment of diverse channels for communication. Second, it urges greater emphasis on leveraging the roles of older adults by building multidimensional learning and service platforms that provide them with opportunities to contribute to society and express themselves. Third, it highlights the strong desire of the elderly to travel, advocating for the development and promotion of age-friendly tourism and sojourn products, as well as the improvement of health-and-wellness service systems.
At the event, Dang Junwu provided an interpretation of the “Initiative,” pointing out that public perceptions of aging should undergo a significant shift—moving beyond the traditional concepts of “elderly care” and “enjoying old age” to embrace the new philosophy of “Creative Enjoyment in Later Life” proposed by Ping An. Dang Junwu argued that diligence forms the foundation of Chinese culture, while the confidence of the Chinese people stems from finding enjoyment in creation and engaging in creation through enjoyment. Only by remaining active and productive in old age can seniors fully realize their sense of value and purpose. “Let us join hands with the elderly population to find enjoyment in creation and engage in creation through enjoyment, to serve others while fulfilling oneself, and to fulfill oneself while serving others. In doing so, we can transcend all the joys and sorrows of life and experience the dignity, joy, value, and meaning inherent in being human.”
As a leading insurance enterprise, Ping An has actively responded to national calls and, grounded in the needs of the public, continued to deepen its “Integrated Finance + Healthcare and Elderly Care” strategy. Ma Mingzhe, Chairman of Ping An, stated that the company is continuously building a distinctive managed healthcare and elderly care service system. By setting standards, implementing centralized procurement, and supervising services, Ping An achieves high cost-performance ratios and establishes a robust service supervision and management system, leveraging professionalism to enhance the well-being of the elderly. It was reported that Ping An began constructing its home-based elderly care service framework in 2021 and launched the “Ping An Steward” home-based elderly care service brand in 2022, providing customers with one-stop advisory solutions for home-based elderly care. As of the end of the first quarter of 2024, Ping An’s home-based elderly care services had covered 54 cities across China, with nearly 100,000 customers having gained eligibility for these services.
At this press conference, Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. officially launched the “Le Lian Ti” service system for home-based elderly care. Li Dou, Chairman and CEO of Ping An Health, delivered a speech summarizing the “Le Lian Ti” as a “Three Companionship” butler service, providing seniors with comprehensive solutions for enjoyable leisure and cultural engagement. First is “Companionship in Conversation,” which covers three types of conversational services—AI Chat, Butler Companion, and Emotional Companion—to alleviate seniors’ concerns with a single click. Second is “Companionship in Learning,” which collaborates with prestigious universities to establish the Peking University–Ping An Home-Based Fanghua Class, and partners with high-quality senior universities to help local seniors learn together and relive the joy of classroom experiences. Third is “Companionship in Travel,” where medical butlers and lifestyle butlers provide full online accompaniment, ensuring seniors enjoy travel and sojourn services with greater peace of mind.

To safeguard customer interests, Ping An has also established a rigorous quality control system for personnel and processes within its “Three Companions” service framework. Regarding service personnel, the Ping An Steward platform conducts strict vetting of the qualifications of instructors, travel guides, consultants, and other staff provided by service partners. In terms of service processes, taking tourism services—where market irregularities are prevalent—as an example, Ping An Steward has specially designed a quality supervision system that leverages digital management tools to monitor service quality and enhance customer experience.
The “Three Companions” service system has also garnered positive feedback from customers. An elderly gentleman who experienced the companion chat service remarked, “The smart speaker is available 24/7. It listens attentively and patiently to every word I say.” An older lady who participated in a qipao fashion show workshop shared, “While I am still mobile and active, I want to learn more to enrich myself, make new friends, and feel happy, relaxed, and fulfilled.” Another senior woman praised the age-friendly travel itinerary after her experience: “The tour guide was very attentive to us seniors, reminding us when getting off the bus, climbing steps, or finding our rooms. Upon departure, he even reminded us to take our teacups. Given our advanced age, we tend to get somewhat tired during outings, so the guide arranged afternoon tea, allowing us to rest while enjoying the trip.”
Notably, on the evening of August 9, Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd. launched its first healing-themed slow variety show, *Finding Our “Le” Tai*, showcasing the rich possibilities for a vibrant later life. In the program, four Ping An customers from different age groups were invited to the picturesque Baihaba Village in Altay. Under the guidance of Yao Yao, General Manager of Ping An’s Home-based Elderly Care Business Center, and Luo Wei, a Ping An MVP agent, they jointly participated in the launch event for Ping An’s “Le Lian Ti” community and the “Roaming the Frontier Wilderness” themed carnival. They experienced on-site the “Three Companions” butler services and immersed themselves in the worry-free lifestyle of “Joyful Aging.”

Under Ping An’s “Integrated Finance + Healthcare and Elderly Care” strategy, Ping An Life Insurance and Ping An Health have jointly developed and deepened the “Insurance + Home-Based Elderly Care” model. Customers who meet the eligibility criteria for home-based elderly care membership through the purchase of insurance products will receive corresponding home-based elderly care benefits. In this way, Ping An effectively integrates risk protection with home-based elderly care services, continuously empowers its core insurance business through its healthcare and elderly care ecosystem, and provides customers with products and services that are “worry-free, time-saving, and cost-effective.”
After more than two years of exploration, Ping An Home-Based Elderly Care has continuously integrated high-quality industry resources, expanded the connotation and extension of insurance services, optimized the supply of elderly care services, and explored the establishment of service standards. It has innovatively created a “Consortium” model for home-based elderly care to help seniors improve their quality of life and safeguard their safety at home. To date, Ping An Home-Based Elderly Care has accumulated considerable experience in building this consortium model. In October 2023, it officially launched the “Care Consortium,” integrating service providers to roll out the Ping An Worry-Free Care service in pilot cities; since its launch, the number of individuals served has increased tenfold year-on-year. In March 2024, it introduced the “Living Consortium” model and launched the “573 Home Safety Renovation Service.” Since then, the number of home environment safety assessments conducted on the Ping An Steward platform has risen by 300%, and home safety education services have been provided to approximately 500 communities and 10,000 households nationwide.
Yang Zheng, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Ping An Life Insurance, stated, “Customer needs define the direction of Ping An’s efforts. With another innovative breakthrough in its ‘Insurance + Home-Based Elderly Care’ model, we have launched the ‘Le Lian Ti’ butler ‘Three Companions’ service system. Through companionship in conversation, learning, and travel, along with service supervision, we provide warmer social and cultural entertainment solutions for the elderly. We look forward to this model truly helping customers achieve ‘peace of mind for the elderly, reassurance for their children, and dedicated focus from the butlers.’”
Moving forward, Ping An Home-Based Elderly Care will continue to focus on the core needs and scenarios of seniors, improve the construction of its “Integrated Consortium,” and further deepen the substance of the “Care Consortium,” “Living Consortium,” and “Wellness Consortium.” By collaborating with industry, academia, and research institutions to jointly establish industry standards and ecosystems, it aims to provide high-quality and efficient elderly care services, thereby supporting the healthy and sustainable development of the elderly care industry.
Cultivating a deep sense of devotion to family and country, and remaining steadfast in the original aspiration to serve the people. Ping An stated that it will continue to deepen its “Insurance + Home-Based Elderly Care” model, deliver the service value of “Peace of Mind, Worry-Free, and Ease,” enable more customers to share in the fruits of development and enjoy a happy and secure later life, and contribute Ping An’s strength to promoting the high-quality development of pension finance.
