In 2023, Molefuture was established as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Yeasen Biotechnology. Dr. Liu Xiang, founder and CEO of Molefuture, led the company’s team into the synthetic biology sector, embarking on an entrepreneurial journey with enzyme engineering technology as its entry point.

 

Liu Xiang, a scholar deeply engaged in the fields of enzyme catalysis and directed enzyme evolution, was jointly trained by East China University of Science and Technology and the California Institute of Technology. She studied under Professor Xu Jianhe, a Chang Jiang Scholar Distinguished Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education, and Professor Frances H. Arnold, the 2018 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry. Her academic pursuits have not only flourished in the laboratory but also yielded significant achievements in industry.

After earning her Ph.D., Liu joined the industry directly. She has worked for multinational corporations such as DSM and Wilmar, dedicating over a decade to the enzyme sector and related industries. She possesses extensive experience in research and development as well as industrialization across various enzyme categories, including catalytic enzymes for API intermediates, food enzymes, lipid enzymes, research-grade enzymes, diagnostic enzymes, and biopharmaceutical enzymes. She has profound expertise in enzyme molecular engineering, process development, large-scale manufacturing, and applications.


In 2021, Liu Xiang joined Yeasen Biotechnology, a leading domestic enterprise in tool enzymes, during a pivotal period of vigorous development in the biotechnology sector.At this company, which is dedicated to import substitution and focuses on the field of tool enzymes, she led her team in building an enzyme engineering platform—ZymeEditor—from the ground up. Comprising nearly 30 professionals, the platform concentrates on the development of molecular enzymes and tool enzymes, and has established capabilities in directed evolution, high-throughput screening, and semi-rational design to meet diverse demands for enzyme engineering. This has made significant contributions to strengthening Yeasen’s independent intellectual property rights and advancing upstream enzyme development.

 

In fact, the “ZymeEditor” platform was initially designed to provide customized services exclusively for its parent company. However, the recent surge in synthetic biology has led Liu Xiang to realize that his team, leveraging their deep expertise in industrial and catalytic enzymes as well as their comprehensive technical and service capabilities in the industrial application of enzymes, is fully equipped to make significant strides in this rapidly evolving field.

 

In terms of team background, Molefuture has assembled an elite group with outstanding credentials. Its core members have previously worked at international enzyme giants such as Dupont and DSM.
