In 2022, the General Office of the Hainan Provincial People's Government issued the "Several Measures for Accelerating the Development of the Digital Therapeutics Industry in Hainan Province," which is the first policy document nationwide and globally to provide support and safeguards for the entire lifecycle of digital therapeutics. In March 2024, the "Key Tasks for Deepening the Reform of the Medical and Healthcare System in Hainan Province in 2024" was released, explicitly promoting the application and popularization of smart health technology products, such as digital therapeutics, at the primary care level, with the aim of establishing Hainan as a highland for digital therapeutics innovation. In May 2024, the "Notice of the Hainan Provincial Health Commission on Launching the Application and Review Process for Hainan Provincial Digital Therapeutics Diagnosis and Treatment Centers" was issued. This initiative seeks to select qualified medical institutions to serve as Hainan Provincial Digital Therapeutics Diagnosis and Treatment Centers, gradually integrate digital therapeutics into routine disease diagnosis and treatment pathways, and accelerate the sustained and healthy development of the digital therapeutics sector.
Guided by various policies, Hainan has actively promoted the application of digital therapeutics (DTx) products, deeply expanded innovative application scenarios for DTx, and achieved fruitful results by launching pilot programs for DTx in diabetes management, cognitive rehabilitation for the elderly, and interventions for children aged 0–6 with autism spectrum disorder.
