Sensor and Optical Technology Service Provider

China is a vibrant and rapidly developing market. In recent years, through continuous innovation and structural transformation, China has become an indispensable participant in the process of globalization. Amid the current slowdown in global economic growth and a complex, ever-changing international landscape, China’s GDP has maintained steady growth, demonstrating its robust market vitality and strong resilience. Driven by confidence in the Chinese market, ams OSRAM has further strengthened its commitment to deepening its presence in China by establishing the China Development Center (hereinafter referred to as “CDC”) to continuously optimize its local strategy.

The current international environment remains fraught with uncertainty. Against this backdrop, the global semiconductor industry has been significantly impacted by fluctuations in international policies and market demand. Meanwhile, data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that China’s GDP grew by 4.8% year-on-year in the first three quarters. In terms of industrial development, China is experiencing “explosive” growth in the fields of artificial intelligence, new energy vehicles, and semiconductor chip manufacturing. These trends present both challenges and opportunities for ams OSRAM CDC to leverage its professional expertise and drive innovation.

Since its establishment was announced this August, the China Development Center (CDC) has shouldered the critical responsibility of driving business growth in the Greater China region. Affiliated with the CMOS, Sensors and ASICs (CSA) Division of ams OSRAM Group, the CDC currently operates offices in Shenzhen and Shanghai. With a team of 30 professionals encompassing business development, application engineering, and local supply chain optimization, the center is primarily responsible for providing business expansion support, application engineering services, and supply chain optimization to customers in three core application areas: mobile smart devices, medical imaging, and intelligent vehicles.

Jose Vinau, Vice President and Head of the China Development Center (CDC) at ams OSRAM, stated, “I believe there is still substantial room for investment in the Chinese market. However, to succeed in China, we need a deeper understanding of its unique challenges. The establishment of the CDC enables us to better leverage ams OSRAM’s global resources to build a team that can rapidly respond to market changes and gain profound insights into local needs, thereby delivering higher-quality services to our Chinese customers.”

Customer-centric, empowering local clients to maintain long-term competitive advantages in a fiercely competitive market.

In China’s fiercely competitive market, companies are pursuing not only speed and efficiency but also continuous improvements in cost-performance ratio to maintain their competitiveness—a trend characterized as “faster, more intensely competitive, and higher value for money.” For CMOS, sensor, and ASIC (CSA) products, which primarily target smartphones and wearable devices, medical technology, and connected vehicle applications, end-user demand drives exceptionally stringent requirements for cost-effectiveness, customization, and responsiveness. These sectors also face significant pain points, including frequent market shifts and uncertainty in defining clear product roadmaps.

To help customers win in an ever-changing market, device partners must also adapt to this pace and collaborate with customers for mutual success. Before the establishment of the CDC, ams OSRAM already had a strong technical engineering team capable of providing robust technical support to customers. Now, the CDC has further integrated the market development team on this basis. Unlike simply responding to customer needs and providing technical support, it is more important to delve into customer teams, jointly explore market demands, seize opportunities, lead market development, transform from passive to active, and provide localized applications with a global perspective for customers.

In addition, leveraging its extensive global supply chain network, ams OSRAM is able to provide flexible regional support tailored to customers’ specific needs. This agile and efficient supply chain management not only ensures rapid product delivery but also enhances adaptability to market changes, thereby delivering more stable and reliable supply chain services to customers.

AI-Driven Market Innovation: From Device Supply to Diverse Applications, Competing on Both Speed and Quality

According to data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), the scale of China’s AI industry is projected to exceed RMB 400 billion in 2025. With the advancement of artificial intelligence, intelligent upgrades are emerging and influencing product design and development. In the current technological context, artificial intelligence is not merely a tool for enhancing productivity, but also a driving force that reshapes industries and stimulates high-quality development.

In key sectors such as mobile smart devices, medical imaging, and intelligent vehicles, AI is also exerting a significant impact, driving industry innovation and transformation.

· Mobile smart devices:AI and intelligent technologies have raised consumer expectations for the user experience of mobile devices and consumer products. In recent years, smartphone design has undergone significant transformation. ams OSRAM has pioneered innovative under-OLED ambient light sensing technology, which intelligently detects ambient light despite interference from screen emissions, enabling ultra-thin bezel designs and elevating consumer expectations for smartphone aesthetics. Currently, ams OSRAM is developing a next-generation under-OLED ambient light sensing technology with higher sensitivity and signal-to-noise ratio, capable of detecting weak signals under complex display conditions. This advancement heralds the adoption of more sophisticated display technologies in future smartphones, meeting consumers’ growing demands for both product appearance and display performance.

· Medical Imaging:AI enhances diagnostic accuracy and the likelihood of early disease detection by ensuring consistent image quality output. AI-assisted computer-aided diagnosis systems can identify subtle lesions, thereby augmenting physicians’ diagnostic capabilities. Furthermore, AI has made significant contributions to streamlining operational workflows and improving physician efficiency, driving the medical imaging industry toward intelligent transformation. ams OSRAM is continuously expanding its portfolio of detectors for medical imaging applications to meet the demands of technological innovation.

· Smart Vehicles:In recent years, the development and application of AI technology have spurred the integration of AI with sensing technologies, playing an increasingly important role in the field of smart cockpits. ams OSRAM’s ambient light sensors, multi-point dToF sensing technology, infrared LEDs, CMOS image sensors, as well as its intelligent LED solutions and smart drivers, all contribute to creating premium smart cockpit experiences.

Despite the ongoing uncertainties in the global outlook, continuing to invest in the Chinese market, which holds significant growth potential, remains a prudent strategy during an economic downturn. Looking ahead, CDC will further strengthen ams OSRAM’s strategic position in the Chinese market and drive business expansion across the Greater China region. By playing a pivotal role in localized operations, CDC will help customers accelerate innovation and achieve greater breakthroughs.
