Complex chronic diseases and population aging are emerging as new challenges for global healthcare teams, making breakthroughs in therapies for vital organs particularly critical. Baxter has established a full-lifecycle industrial chain in China, encompassing local R&D, manufacturing, marketing, and services. This includes a world-class R&D center invested and built in Suzhou, a technical service center in Shanghai, and three manufacturing facilities in Tianjin, Guangzhou, and Suzhou. In China, by driving innovation in digital products and services and continuously expanding access to therapies, Baxter supports hundreds of thousands of patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) and provides acute and critical care therapy support to more than 1,000 hospitals nationwide.

At this year’s CIIE, Baxter spotlighted three key therapeutic areas—peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis, and acute and critical care—showcasing a range of leading flagship products and treatment solutions. In the acute and critical care section, Baxter prominently featured its upcoming next-generation continuous blood purification system, PrisMax. As a locally manufactured blood purification system tailored to Chinese clinical needs, PrisMax integrates global cutting-edge technology with local requirements to support comprehensive blood purification therapies in clinical practice. With advantages including high treatment delivery rates, minimal interruptions, and rapid setup, PrisMax leverages China’s intelligent manufacturing capabilities to empower healthcare professionals in delivering precise treatments and significantly enhancing operational efficiency in ICU departments.

Addressing unmet needs in peritoneal dialysis in the digital era, Baxter empowers its comprehensive automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) product ecosystem with leading digital solutions and exceptional services. Through three upgraded digital products—ShareSource Analytics 1.0, ShareSource Adequest, and the MyPD app—Baxter helps clinicians optimize APD patient management, provides decision support for patients and healthcare teams, and enhances the quality and efficiency of medical services.

In the field of hemodialysis, WanYiTe unveiled Tainuojia, China's first medium cut-off (MCO) dialyzer.®. Innovative Expanded Hemodialysis (HDx), enabled by medium-cutoff dialysis membranes, efficiently removes large middle-molecule toxins associated with inflammation, cardiovascular disease, and other complications in dialysis patients. This approach helps improve patients’ clinical symptoms and long-term prognosis, offers greater operational convenience, and reduces the consumption of medical resources, thereby providing a new treatment option for patients with end-stage renal disease and ushering hemodialysis therapy in China into a new era.

Ms. Wang Gaofang, General Manager of Baxter’s Kidney Care business in China and Vice President of Asia-Pacific Strategic Planning, stated: “Building on Baxter’s 35-year legacy of deep commitment to kidney care in China, the new brand Vantive will be dedicated to meeting the comprehensive needs of Chinese healthcare teams and patients through innovative, high-quality, and locally adapted medical products and services. Leveraging the spillover effects of the China International Import Expo (CIIE), Vantive will continue to accelerate its localization strategy and strengthen collaborations to enhance the experience of dialysis and acute critical care treatment, advance the development of China’s disease management systems, and contribute to achieving the ‘Healthy China 2030’ goals.”

Baxter's Proposed Plan to Spin Off Vantive

Baxter’s Kidney Care business—comprising kidney care and acute critical care therapies—is being spun off from Baxter to become an independent private company, which will be named Vantive (hereinafter referred to as “Vantive”). Going forward, Vantive will focus on transforming vital organ therapies, upholding its corporate mission of “Sustaining the Journey of Life, Expanding Infinite Possibilities.” In August 2024, Baxter announced an agreement with Carlyle for the acquisition of Vantive. The new Vantive brand and its separation from Baxter are expected to take effect in late 2024 or early 2025, once the sale is completed subject to required governmental approvals and satisfaction of other closing conditions. Until then, Vantive will continue to operate as part of Baxter.
