FuzhiTech Launches High-Density Flexible and Stretchable Electrodes for Comprehensive, Accurate, and Comfortable Bioelectrical Signal Monitoring

Nov 08, 2024 07:59 CST Updated 08:00

With the further advancement of life sciences, the demand for health monitoring is growing increasingly, and electrodes have become a crucial bridge connecting the human body with advanced medical devices.

Whether it is traditional electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring or emerging brain-computer interface (BCI) technology, electrodes are an indispensable component. Electrode pads not only provide physicians with richer diagnostic information but also offer patients a more personalized medical experience. In recent years, continuous innovations and advancements in medical technologies such as neuromodulation therapy and remote medical monitoring have raised higher expectations for the development of electrode pads, including:Precise, Comfortable, Hypoallergenicetc.

To address this need,Zhejiang Fuzhitai Medical Device Co., Ltd.(hereinafter referred to as “Fuzhitai”) has collaborated with domestic universities and research institutes to develop and launch high-density flexible stretchable electrodes, leveraging decades of accumulated expertise by the company’s technical founders.

Flexible Stretchable Electrodes

Filling the Gap in Domestically Produced Flexible Electrodes

Currently, electrodes commonly used in clinical practice are mainly divided intoBody Surface ElectrodesandImplantable ElectrodesTwo major categories.

Surface electrodes are the most common type of electrode, widely used in fields such as electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring, fetal monitoring, biofeedback, and postoperative monitoring. Surface electrodes not only accurately monitor human electrical signals but also offer low cost and ease of use. However, they have notable drawbacks; for instance, during motion monitoring, slippage or displacement may occur, leading to inaccurate monitoring results.

Furthermore, surface electrodes are not suitable for scenarios requiring long-term monitoring, such as hospitalization or surgery. Most surface electrodes are wired; during patient movement or when repositioning the patient during surgery, the electrode leads can easily become entangled if due care is not taken, potentially causing unnecessary harm.

Implantable electrodes can provide long-term, stable signals and are therefore commonly used in neuromodulation therapies. Currently, deep brain stimulation, spinal cord stimulation, and cochlear implants all utilize implantable electrodes. However, this approach requires surgical implantation, exposing patients to risks of infection and surgical complications, while the procedure itself inevitably causes discomfort.

Although flexible electrodes, hydrogel electrodes, and other related products are currently available on overseas markets, due toHigh costs, cumbersome operations, and expensive pricing, making widespread adoption in China difficult. In light of this, there is an urgent need in both the research and clinical communities for domestically produced flexible, stretchable electrodes. The Fuzhitai team is determined to fill this gap.

High-Channel Flexible Stretchable Electrodes: More Comprehensive and Accurate Motor Nerve Monitoring

Based on Fuzhitai's Current Key Pipeline32-Channel Flexible Stretchable ElectrodesFor example, flexibility and stretchability are its most significant advantages. This seemingly minor innovation plays a pivotal role in clinical diagnostics, scientific research, and even patients’ daily care, leveraging its unique benefits.

First, this electrode is made of medical-grade elastic material and stretchable conductive technology, featuring50% Stable Collection Stretchability, when in use, it adheres closely to the user's skin like a plaster, deforming with movement to enhance large-area signal acquisition efficiency,Effectively Reduces Motion Artifacts

During exercise monitoring or rehabilitation therapy, user muscle activity is inevitable. Traditional electrode patches are relatively rigid, which can significantly impair the user's exercise experience, preventing them from achieving optimal performance and leading to biased monitoring results. From a clinical perspective, such data deviations hinder the formulation of treatment plans that best align with the patient's condition, thereby compromising therapeutic efficacy.

In addition, the 32-channel electrode array can integrate signals collected from multiple local electrodes, enabling the device to acquire moreAccurate and Comprehensivelarge-area signals, thereby improving the accuracy of monitoring data.

Building on its 32-channel flexible, stretchable electrode technology, Taizhifu is currently developing a high-channel wireless surface electromyography (sEMG) system. The integration of wireless technology not only facilitates clinical use but also enables long-term, customized applications. In the future, this product is expected to be widely adopted in fields such as clinical diagnosis, clinical research, rehabilitation assessment, sports science, and human–computer interaction.

Currently, high-channel flexible stretchable electrodes are being sold in the research market and are expected to enter the clinical market next year. Fuzhitai has establishedProduction Factory Exceeding 3,000 Square Meters, achieving fully automated in-house R&D, production, and sales in the future.
